It is not recommended to charge a mobile phone with a low electricity voltage as it tends to damage both the phone and the charger.
I have experienced this before, using a low voltage to charge my old samsung phone.
Both the phone and the charger was well heated up to the extent I though the charger will explode, but it didn’t.
I had to quickly unplug the charger and the phone.
At the end of the day, only the charger was damaged but nothing happened to the phone or it’s battery as I’m still using the phone and haven’t replaced the battery.
This may not be your case but charging your phone with a low power voltage will make the phone, and the charger to get hot when charging.
So you shouldn’t try it at all.
2. Why is my phone hot when charging: Apps running in the background
This case is quite common especially apps that consume lots of battery or drain the battery especially when the Wi-Fi or cellular data is on.
From my own experience, Facebook app was the culprit.
I noticed that Facebook app usually heat up my phone when I minimize it and have my Wi-Fi or cellular data turned on.
Aside from Facebook app, both the messenger app, Skype, and pinterest app tends to warm the phone when charging.
So what I usually do is to restrict these apps from running in the background, or probably turn off my Wi-Fi or cellular data when charging my phone.

3. WIFI and Cellular DATA being a culprit
Many a time we don’t turn off the Wi-Fi or mobile data before charging our phone because we don’t see the reason to do so.
However, this may be the reason why you’re trying to find the reason why does my phone get hot when charging.
When you leave a Wi-Fi or cellular data turned on, on a mobile phone, there a activities running the phone that may require the use of a Wi-Fi or a cellular data.

Another major reason why a phone gets hot when charging is using a faulty charger or a usb cable.
More especially using a faulty charger.
Instead of the charger to charger the phone, it heat up the phone and only offering a slow charger.
If you’re having an issue of your phone getting hot when charging, kindly unplug the charger and use another charger to charge your phone.
If it still the phone gets hot while charging, the problem is not from the charger but rather the phone, the wall socket or the power electricity.
5. GPS AND Location is active
There’s no doubt that GPS and location when active can warm up a phone or make the phone to get hot especially when you have your Wi-Fi or cellular data active on your mobile phone.
If you’re charging your phone and noticed that the phone is hot, quickly turn off the GPS and location in order to stop the heating of your phobe when charging.

The solution to prevent your phone from getting hot when charging is to turn off the Wi-Fi or cellular data as it will help to stop apps that uses the internet from functioning in the phone background.
When you have your Wi-Fi or cellular data turned off, the likes of Facebook app, whatsapp messenger, Twitter, Skype, and others will no longer function until there’s internet connection in the phone.

It is not normal for a phone to get hot while charging, it is very abnormal and causes a phone to charge at a low speed rate.
A phone cannot just get hot while it is being charged, there are things causing the phone to heat up while charging and some of them I have mentioned above.
All in all, once your phone is overheating while being charged, kindly power off the phone, wait for fifteen minutes and charge the phone.
How to prevent my phone from heating up while charging?
To prevent a phone from heating up while charging, kindly turn off the cellular data or Wi-Fi, put background apps to sleep and use the correct charger and USB cable to charge the phone.
Most especially turn off the Wi-Fi or cellular data while charging the phone.
If the phone gets extremely hot, power off the phone and charge it.
This is also how to cool down phone while charging. Simply remove apps from running in the background and turn off the Wi-Fi, cellular data, GPS and location when charging your phone.
