Ever wondered if at all does low power mode work or probably does nothing on both the iPhone and Andriod phone?
This is what we’ll be looking if the low power mode on iphone and the power saving mode on android does really have an effect on the phone in terms of preserving the battery life of iPhone and android phone.
Before going further into the article, first one should try to understand what is actually low power mode and how does if affect the phone in a positive way.
Some people will say low battery mode, low battery saving mode or power mode, note that they are all the same.
What is low battery mode?
Low battery mode or low power mode is a phone feature or tool which help to maximize and preserve the number of power left in a particular phone battery, after the phone battery has gone too low and which is usually 20%.
Low power mode isn’t new and since the days of Nokia Java phones, Symbian and Belle phone I’ve seen the low power mode feature.
On iphone it is called low power mode, while on android and other mobile phones it is called power saver or power saving mode. But kindly note that they are all the same without any difference whatsoever.
On iphone when your phone gets to 20% you will see the low power mode pops up on your screen requesting that you enable the mode on your iPhone or iPad.
Now what the low power mode on iphone and iPad does is to reduce features like email fetch, background app refresh, automatic downloads, some visual effects like animations, screen brightness, etc.
Aside from these, your iPhone or iPad will automatically lock after 30 seconds if you’re not actively using your iPhone or iPad, and iCloud Photos will be temporarily paused.
These are typically what Low power mode does on iphone and iPad.
Once you start to charge your iPhone or iPad, low power mode will still be turned on but immediately the battery percentage reaches 80%, it will automatically turn off on it’s own.
Remember, low power mode doesn’t turn on or gets activated on it’s own, you will have to enable the feature on your iPhone and iPad. But the truth is low power mode turn off on it’s own immediately your device battery percentage reaches 80%.
Having said that low power mode help to maximize and preserve the number of power left in a particular phone battery, the question being asked is that does low power mode work at all.
Let’s proceed to that.
Does low power mode work?
Yes indeed low power mode does work as it preserve an iphone battery percentage not reaching a below par percentage like 10% major by reducing some of the features in an iphone. These include screen brightness, animations, email fetch, background app refresh, automatic downloads, etc.
Do you think Apple will add a feature to their products that doesn’t work?
That isn’t possible at all.
Now I use the low power mode on my iPhone, and the power saving mode on my samsung galaxy phone.
When I’m running low on battery I do enable the low power mode on my iPhone especially if I’m outdoors and have no charger with me. But when I’m indoors I do charge my phone immediately the battery percentage gets to 40%, so I don’t regularly use the low power mode on my iPhone.
On android, I enabled the power mode to always and optimized so as to get the best battery optimization for my android phone.
This is a feature that isn’t available on ios as the low power mode goes off immediately the battery percentage reaches 80%.
Going back to the question once again, does low power mode work. I will explain this based on my experience with low power mode on my iPhone xs max.
I purposely left my iphone to get to 20% and boom the low power mode notification pops up on my screen and which I didn’t hesitate to enable the feature.
It was so irritating that my iphone locks by 30 seconds, but for others I never mind at all.
Some of the phone features that consumes battery a lot was reduced especially the screen brightness, animation, and the internet as well.
As my iphone was at 20%, I was really surprised that even after 30 minutes had gone by the battery percentage dropped by just 1% which normally it will drop by 10%
But the negative effect is that some important phone features will be restricted or drastically reduced immediately you enable the low power mode on your iPhone or iPad.
My friend that bought the iPhone 13 turned on the low power mode on it’s iPhone and automatically it changed the network mode from 5G to 4G network.
This is to tell you that low power mode on iphone and iPad disable the 5G network. You cannot use 5G network when you iphone is on low power mode as it will change the network mode to 4G.
You don’t need to ask why this is s unless you don’t know that 5G network consumes battery more than the 4G network especially when you are downloading or streaming online.
Does low power mode charge iphone and iPad faster?
The answer is yes, low power mode charge both the iPhone and the iPad way faster compared to when they are in normal mode.
As low power mode restrict or reduce some of the phone features that use the battery a lot, this alone helps to charge the iPhone and iPad way faster compared to normal mode.
This is to tell you that there’s no need asking does low power mode work because indeed Low power mode do work based on my own experience.
However to enable low power mode on iphone and iPad
If you have an iPhone or iPad with you, there’s no harm in trying to see if truly does low power mode work.

You have to click on the toggle next to Low Power Mode. When it turns green, this simply means that Low Power Mode is on.

Is it OK to keep iPhone on low power mode?
There’s no harm keeping the iPhone on low power mode though I don’t recommend doing it very often as it limit some nice phone features like the lock screen, animation, network mode, screen brightness, downloads, etc.
If you don’t give a damn about these restrictions or reduction, then you can go ahead to use the low power mode m your iPhone but not that you can’t use it once your iPhone battery percentage reach 80%.
What are the disadvantages of low power mode on iPhone?
The major disadvantage of low power mode on iphone is that it switches 5G network to 4G network, that is to say you cannot use 5G network while your iPhone is on low power mode.
This is very frustrating if you are using a mobile data and so much love the 5G network.
Another is that low power mode reduces the screen lock to 30 seconds which is very awful for me though some number of persons wouldn’t care at all.
This is where I draw the curtain on the question of the day, does low power mode work and I assure that you indeed Low power mode work on iphone and iPad.
