Incoming calls phone only rings once: What it means

Seen a situation whereby you saw your phone ring once and suddenly the call disconnects or ends abruptly. There are lots of reasons why such is happening and you are not alone.

It is very weird to see an incoming call on your mobile phone and suddenly the call ends before you can answer the call.

This brings us to the question of the day.

Why incoming calls phone only rings once? This is usually caused by a spam call especially if the number calling is unknown to the recipient. It can also be caused by a poor network reception, or probably the caller cancelled the call before you answer the call.

Aside from the above explanation, there are more to incoming calls ring once and disconnect, all that I will explain to you in this article.

Let’s jump in to that.

Incoming calls phone only rings once

The incoming call you saw on your phone is likely to be a scam call especially if the caller is unknown to you. It can also indicate income call barring or your line has been disconnected.

Now I will further explain these why you are having the problem of incoming calls phone only rings once on your mobile phone.

incoming calls phone only rings once

But before that, please I would like you to remove your sim card from your mobile phone and insert it into another phone. Then call your number and see if the incoming call will ring for a long period or more four times.

If after removing your sim card and putting it into another phone and you are still having the problem, be rest assured that the problem is from your sim card and not your phone, network or a scam call.

Please you have to get a sim replacement.

Now let’s proceed.

1. You are seeing a spam call

A typical example of a spam call is to let the phone ring once, and the call will be cancelled immediately. A spsm caller wouldn’t let the phone to ring three times or more than four seconds and the call will be cancelled right away.

There was a period I was receiving lots of spam calls and this is exactly how it does happen. The phone ringing once and the call disconnects immediately.

Now if the number happens to be an unknown number, please do not call back or even send a text message so as to avoid your phone being hacked.

Many a time these scammers will use different phone numbers in calling so as to disguise, but you need to be very careful in calling the numbers. As long as the numbers are unknown to you, please don’t call back.

If the problem of incoming calls phone only rings once happens to occur on all incoming calls on your phone including phone numbers known to you, then the problem is from your phone or the network service.

2. Call barring on all incoming calls

Calling barring on all incoming calls prevents a phone user from receiving calls on it’s mobile phone.

For this tutorial I enabled calling barring on all incoming calls on my mobile phone, lo and behold what happened is exactly this “incoming calls phone only rings once and disconnects”.

It can never ring twice or for more than three seconds, and on my other phone, the call didn’t even go through. This is very common on those using android and you have to check if you have mistakenly enabled call barring on your mobile phone.

To do so;

  • Open the phone app on your android phone and tap on the hamburger menu.
  • Tap on settings and you will see supplementary services.
  • Tap on the supplementary services and you will see call barring.
  • Tap on call barring and you will see two options which includes outgoing calls and incoming calls.
  • Look at the option that states incoming calls, and check to see if allow incoming calls are enabled.
  • If it is enabled then be rest assured that it is the culprit of incoming calls phone only rings once.
  • Please you have to disable it and restart your mobile phone.

Definitely you will start to receive incoming calls on your phone without it being disconnected after one ring.

3. You line may have been disconnected

A disconnected line can also cause the problem of incoming calls phone only rings once. Disconnected line caused by non payment of phone bill hinders a subscriber from receiving calls.

There are service network providers that disconnect their subscribers from making and receiving calls immediately their phone bill has expired though they are very few.

3. Disable Volte network

Not all phones or carrier network support the volte network feature, but if your mobile phone happens to have the volte network feature, it may be the reason you are experiencing the problem of incoming calls phone only rings once and disconnect.

Please open the settings app and tap on connection. Open mobile networks and you will see volte, if it is enabled you have to disable it and restart your phone.

Now is the last option for you and which should fix the call problem you are having unless you will have to factory reset your phone.

3. You network settings may be the culprit

If the problem you are having occurs on all incoming calls from both your family, friends and colleagues, then you should look into your mobile phone.

If call barring is not enabled and you have an active phone bill, you have to reset your network settings cause it is likely to be the culprit.

All you have to do is to open the settings app, scroll down to about phone and tap to open. You will see the reset link and open it or you can open the settings app and search for reset network settings. When you have opened the reset network settings tap on the button and reset your network settings.

After that kindly restart your phone and everything should work fine.

Phone only rings once then goes to voicemail

For a phone only rings once then goes to voicemail, this is caused when a call is declined by a recipient and instead forward the call straight to the voicemail.

Some usually think that when phone only rings once then goes to voicemail then it literally means being blocked by the recipient, but I’m telling you yet it isn’t the answer.

When you are blocked by a recipient, the call will never go through. On iPhone, the caller will end right away without ringing or redirect the caller straight to voicemail. On android or Samsung phone, the caller will see busy and he or she may think the recipient is busy but that isn’t the case.

The fact here is that a phone will never ring when blocked by a recipient. You may think the phone is ringing but in the true sense the phone is not ringing.

Why does my phone only ring once

This can be caused by call barring being enabled on a mobile phone, poor mobile network settings, or you the incoming call is a scam call.

You shouldn’t be worried if the incoming calls are from an unknown number(s) cause it is likely to be a spam call. You should be worried if this includes your family, friends and colleagues calling your number and it disconnects after one ring.

If the phone rings once does it go through

It doesn’t entirely mean the call went through though in most cases when a caller hears a ringback tone, it signifies the recipient phone is ringing and the call went through.

However, there are cases where by a caller will hear a ringback tone while calling someone, but the person won’t see the incoming call and this has happened to me.

You may think the recipient phone is ringing and ignoring your calls but in the true sense the recipient phone isn’t ringing at all.

This is called network hitches.
