Honestly, I will bodly say mms is pretty much outdated in the sense that quite large number of people are no longer using it in sending media files or other files.

Why using mms to send media files like videos, pictures, audios, documents, and other files whilst you have imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, etc to send these files.

As an iphone user don’t bother yourself asking what does turning off mms messaging on iphone do because you have the imessage available. What I won’t recommend to you is turning off imessage on your iPhone cause it is very essential in sending files from one iPhone or iPad user to another.

But for mms messaging, you can do away with it on your iPhone.

Even when you want to send media files to an android user as imessage isn’t compatible with android, the likes of whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, etc is available for you especially whatsapp.

Why I don’t like mms messaging

Talking about what does turning off mms messaging on iphone do and why it isn’t necessary to use mms messaging now we have the imessage, whatsapp and others, there are some major reasons why I don’t like mms messaging especially now in 2022.

They are as follows;

MMS MESSAGING ATTRACTS HIGH CHARGES OR COST: For the fact that mms messaging uses the carrier network service in sending messages, this usually attracts a high cost from the service network provider compared to when sending text messages.

For example, AT&T will charge $0.20 per sms text message while $0.30 per mms messaging which includes all Picture/Video Messages. The higher the size of the file, the high the charges will be and you may find yourself spending $5 to send a file of 3mb.

If you are using imessage or whatsapp to send a file of 3mb, it wouldn’t cost you any especially if you are using a Wi-Fi. Even if you are using a cellular data plan 3mb is nothing compared to spending $5 to send an mms message.

So this is one major reason why I don’t use mms messaging and whereas we now have better options on iphone and android phone.

MMS MESSAGING NOW REQUIRES DATA TO SEND AND TO RECEIVE: Previously you can send mms messages to any phone number without having an active internet connection, but right now to send mms message you must have an active internet connection and so the recipient as well.

Now the question will be, what is the essence of using internet network to send mms messages while I have imessage and whatsapp which will even let me know if the recipient has read the message or not.

Seriously I don’t see why I will be using little data along with network service in sending mms while I have better options that requires internet.

MMS MESSAGING USUALLY TAKES TIME TO SEND: This usually happen but depends on the network service provider as I observed that mms takes quite a while to send especially if the file size is large. It usually took me five minutes to send a file size of 67kb and when I tried sending a 2mb picture to my friend, it took forever to send.

I did the test to know how long it will take me to send mms messaging using my service network provider.

Right now some carriers no longer support mms messaging as the likes of imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, etc has taken over.

Should I turn off MMS on my iPhone?

I recommend turning off mms messaging since we have imessage and whatsapp readily available, and they are lot better in sending media messages compared to mms.

For the fact that mms cost a lot compared to ordinary sms text message and now uses data, I don’t see the need and the reason to use mms messaging unless you want to go old fashioned. Imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, line, Google voice, Google duo, etc are way better than mms messaging.

How do I block MMS messages on my iPhone?

To block mms messaging on iphone, open the settings app and scroll down to messages. Open messages and scroll down a bit to mms messaging and turn it off. Once you have done that you cannot receive or send mms messages on your iPhone.

So this is how to block mms messaging on iphone, by simply turning it off.

Should I use SMS or MMS?

You should use sms when texting on your cell phone and any of the instant messaging apps like imessage, whatsapp, Facebook messenger, telegram, Skype, etc, when sending media messages to someone.

However, if you have an iPhone and want to send a text to another iphone user, kindly use imessage instead of sms in texting cause it is lot better and will notify you when the recipient has read your sent imessage.

What is the difference between MMS and iMessage?

The main difference between MMS and iMessage is that mms requires a sim card and network service, while imessage is an instant messaging service that don’t necessarily require a sim card or network service as long as there’s an available Wi-Fi.

Both mms and imessage can send media messages but imessage is way better as it can send a video file size of 100mb with a sharp clarity whilst mms can’t do such. With imessage, you can send any type of file format whilsf this is restricted on mms messaging.

Imessage let’s you know when a message has been sent, delivered and read while mms only shows when a message has been sent, delivered but wont show you if it has be opened or read by the recipient.

Lastly, imessage is cost effective when using a mobile data and very free if you have an active Wi-Fi, while mms attracts a lot of charges from network service provider.

Do MMS messages use data?

Right now mms uses data both on sending and receiving multimedia messages, and this is both applied to android and iPhone though it depends on the network service provider.

Once again asking what does turning off mms messaging on iphone do, kindly note that it will prevent you from sending mms on your iPhone, and as well as receiving mms on your iPhone. But there’s no need to worry since we have the likes of imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, Google voice, Google duo, etc.
