Mms messaging is the means to send multimedia messages like pictures, videos, or audio files right from your cell phone. Irrespective of the fact that we have tons of instant messaging apps and services, there are quite number of persons that still fancy sending mms messages.

So if you want to go old fashioned way of sending multimedia messages on your cell phone, then you can use mms messaging.

Now looking at the major question being asked about mms and how it works is;

Does mms use wifi?

MMS does not use Wi-Fi in sending multimedia messages but instead it uses data and network service in sending mms messages.

As mms isn’t an instant messaging service, it requires an active sim card, network service and an active data plan in sending mms messages. I understand this is one major thing that piss a lot of people especially now we have the likes of imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, etc that can send multimedia messages using the Wi-Fi.

What is mms messaging?

MMS messaging which is a multimedia messaging service is a way to send text messages with pictures, videos, gifs, emojis, etc. MMS is automatically activated once you attach any of pictures, videos, gifs, emojis, audio files, etc in your message box.

Back then before we have smartphones, mms was very popular and the means of sending pictures, short video clips and audio files, but right now we have a lot better means of sending these type of files on our cell phone compared to mms messaging.

Does mms use wifi?

MMS does not use Wi-Fi but rather it uses mobile data in sending mms messages and to also download received mms files. To be able to send mms messages on your cell phone, you will have to subscribe to a data plan.

Subscribing to a data plan is the only way to send mms messages and not using a Wi-Fi. If you try to use a Wi-Fi to send mms messages it will definitely fail and wouldn’t go through.

KEY NOTES SENDING MMS MESSAGES

  • You must have an active data plan.
  • You must have an active sim card.
  • Your cell phone must have an active cellular network service.
  • You APN must match your network settings for mms messaging.

These are what is required to send mms messages on a cell phone and be android or iphone. Once everything is in order, you can send mms messages on your phone.

Why does mms not work on WiFi?

MMS doesn’t work on Wi-Fi because it involves the use of cellular network service, sim card and cellular data in sending mms messages. For the fact that network service and sim card is involved when sending mms messaging, it doesn’t work on WiFi.

This is why quite number of persons don’t see the need to send mms as it make them to subscribe to a data plan and not make use of their Wi-Fi in sending mms.

However, what the need of subscribing to a data plan just to send mms messages, it doesn’t make any sense at all now we have here is imessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, Google duo, Google voice, etc.

All these instant messaging apps and services are a lot better compared to mms messaging.

How do I enable MMS messaging on my iPhone?

To enable mms on iphone, kindly open the settings app, scroll down to messages and tap to open messages. Inside messages scroll down a bit and you will see mms messaging among the options, make sure it you turned it on.

Once you have done that you have now enabled mms on your iPhone.

But the truth is that mms is enabled by default on iphone unless there was a time you turned it off.

SENDING MMS ON IPHONE

To send mms on iphone, you have to turn off imessage because if you are sending to another ios user or iphone user the message will be sent as imessage.

So kindly turn off imessage on your iPhone.

To do so open the settings app, scroll down to messages and open it. Scroll and you will see iMessage and make sure to turn it off.

Once you have done that open the message app and select the recipient or enter it’s mobile number, beside the message box tap on attachment and select the file you want to send. You will notice that it will automatically convert to mms and then you should hit on the send button.

Why won’t my MMS send?

This is usually caused when there’s no active mobile data in a cell phone, poor internet and network connection or wrong settings for mms messaging.

So first you need to check if you still have an active mobile data or cellular data on your cell phone, check if the internet and network connection are strong or weak, and if you have the correct settings for mms messaging.

You can contact your network service provider to send you the correct settings for mms or forward it to your cell phone.

Kindly note that not all network service provider do offer mms messaging service especially now we have imessage, android rcs chat feature, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, Google voice, Google duo, etc.

But once you have an active data plan and good network service, you can send mms messages unless your network service no longer support mms messaging.
