It is not difficult for someone to tell that a recipient phone number has been disconnected by the service network provider, and mostly it can be very embarrassing when people find out that your phone has been disconnected.
Now the question being asked is;
How do you know if a cell phone is disconnected?
To know if a cell phone is disconnected by the network service provider, kindly call the number and if you hear sorry the number you dialed has been disconnected or not in service, then you should know that the cell phone number is already disconnected.
However, there are more to this message tone as I will show you how can you tell if someone’s phone is disconnected.
Now let’s proceed to that.
How can you tell if someone’s phone is disconnected?
Once you hear a ring back tone after dialing the phone number stating that the number is no longer in service or being disconnected, then you should know that the recipient phone is not active at the moment in terms of cellular network service.
- Can you still receive calls if your phone is disconnected?
- Can you still receive text messages if your phone is disconnected?
In most cases you may not hear or receive the error message tone when dialing the phone number or sending a text message which will even confuse the more especially when you used another phone number to call the disconnected number.
So below are the ways to know that a cell phone number has been disconnected by the network service provider.
1. Sms text messages will keep on failing
When you send multiple sms text messages to a particular phone number on your mobile phone and it keeps on saying message failed, it is a strong indication that the phone number is no longer in service or has been disconnected especially if you use another phone number one sending text messages.
When a cell phone number is disconnected by the service network provider, any texts sent to the phone number will automatically fail.
After you sent a text message to the said phone number what you will see below the message is not sent or failed.
Trying to send another message using a different phone number and same thing occurred, then be rest assured that the phone number is no longer in service or have been disconnected by the network service provider.
Sending a text message is one of the ways to know if a cell phone is disconnected by the network service provider.
2. Know if a cell phone is disconnected by calling the phone number
This is the most common ways to tell if someone’s phone is disconnected by the service network, by simply calling the cell phone number.
Mostly what you will hear will be sorry you have dialed a number that has been disconnected or not in service, this alone tells you that the phone number is no longer in service or unreachable.
At this moment there’s nothing you can do other than to try reach the person using any of the instant messaging apps like whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, imessage, line, Google voice, etc.
These are the only ways to know if a cell phone is disconnected by the service network provider. As it involves the cellular network service, you only have to call or send a text message to know if the phone number is still in service or not.
Reason why cell phone number gets disconnected
The major reason why cell phone numbers gets disconnected is due to non payment of phone bill to the service network providers. Once a mobile subscriber fails to renew or pay it’s monthly phone bill, the cell phone will get disconnected immediately.
Once the cell phone gets disconnected, the subscriber will no longer send text messages or make calls using his or her cellphone.
In some cases the subscriber won’t be able to receive calls and text messages. I know the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile are very good in this type of cellphone disconnection. They will restrict the user from receiving calls and receiving text messages and not just making calls and sending text messages.
Honestly, it will be so shameful calling someone and what the caller will hear will be sorry you have dialed a number that has been disconnected or not in service instead of ringback tone.
Solution to a disconnected cell phone number
If your cellphone number happens to be disconnected by your service network provider which can be so frustrating and same time embarrassing, I have just only one solution for you.
And that is by using Google voice for your calls and text messages.
Why I said Google voice is because calls and text messages will go straight to the recipient phone number even if the recipient is not using google voice. With Google voice you can send and receive text messages, make and receive calls without encountering any issues whatsoever.
Other apps that I know will only allow you to send text messages and no calls.
Again, Google voice requires internet connection so you can use Wi-Fi or cellular data for it. But going by the topic of the post how do you know if a cell phone is disconnected, you have to use Wi-Fi if your cell phone number is disconnected.
How to use google voice when phone is disconnected
Now let’s proceed on how to get started with Google voice on your mobile phone.
After you have downloaded and installed the google voice app on your mobile phone, kindly open the app to get started with creating your account.
1. Open the google voice app on your iPhone or android phone.
2. Kindly select your Google account which you will use to attach a Voice number to and tap “Continue.”
For iPhone users you have to create a Google account in order to use the voice app. Android users you have to select any of your google account if you have multiple accounts with Google for this Google voice app.
3. On the next window, tap “Search” in the lower-right corner to select a Google Voice number. This is followed by entering your zip code or city to load a list of regionally relevant numbers for you to choose from.
You will see list of phone numbers based on the zip code you entered.
4. You have to select your preferred phone number by tapping on the blue button next to the phone number you prefer to use for your google voice account.
5. Google will display the phone number once more on your screen and you have to accept the phone number you selected or you can press the back button to select another phone number.
6. On the next screen is to link the phone number and your google voice account to your android phone or iPhone.
7. What follows next will be to enter your mobile number and mind you Google voice will send a verification code to the phone number.
So you better enter a valid phone number or phone number that is active and Google will send a six digit code to the phone number.
8. On the next screen, enter the code texted to your phone before selecting “Verify.”
You have now verified and created a Google voice account, and using the number assigned to you, you can easily text someone or call any phone number using your google voice account while your phone is being disconnected.
I always recommend to use google voice apps to text someone whenever you phone number has been disconnected by your service network carrier though the app is limited to few countries.
To send a text message using the Google voice, Kindly open the app or open the tab for Messages Messages tab and at the top, click Send a message.
Finally, at the bottom, enter your message, and hit on the Send button. That’s it, you have successfully send an sms text message using the Google voice.
Remember, it doesn’t use cellular network service but rather the internet and whereas it doesn’t consume data at all.
How can you tell if a cell phone number is still active?
Once a cell phone number can make call and receive calls, send and receive text messages, the cell phone number is very much active.
To tell if a cell phone number is still active, kindly send an sms text message to the phone number and if it gets delivered, then be rest assured that the cell phone number is active. But if tge text message fails to get delivered to the person, then be rest assured that the cell phone number is not active.
Another way is by calling the cell phone number, if you didn’t hear sorry you have dialed a number that has been disconnected or not in service, then it means the cell phone number is active.
What does a phone say when is disconnected?
When a phone is disconnected, it usually says sorry you have dialed a number that has been disconnected or not in service.
This is the ringback tone or the message tone you will hear and which indicates that the cell phone number has been disconnected by the service network provider.
With this i draw the conclusion on the question of the day, how do you know if a cell phone is disconnected. Once again if text messages fails and calls refuses to go through, then it is a strong indication that the recipient cell phone number has been disconnected by the service network provider.
