Where are emails stored on my android phone? Explained

So we have the question of the day, where are emails stored on my android phone. Maybe you have received a bunch of emails on your email address, and you feel that they will occupy a lot of space in your phone, then you want to get rid of them.

Let me assume that you’re talking about the Gmail account or maybe any other email account. To answer the question, I will use the popular Google Gmail account.

Where are emails stored on my android phone?

Kindly know that emails are not stored in a mobile phone, and be it an android or ios device. Every email provider has its storage for all emails sent or received on their user’s email account.

Some number of persons do think that any email or emails received are stored on the phone, but that is absolutely not true. Is just like saying files in google drive or one drive are stored in the mobile phone.

I want you to know that emails received or sent are not stored in the mobile phone, even if you send an attachment to a recipient it won’t be stored in your mobile phone.

For example, the Gmail account has a maximum limit of 15GB though it is shared with other Google accounts. Then if a user upgrades the Google account, the user will receive up to 100GB of storage.

All the emails received are stored in this storage, and if you exhaust the storage, you won’t be able to receive new messages or emails to your Gmail account. In this case, you will have to delete some emails in your email account to receive new mails.

So I’m saying this to tell you that this question of where are emails stored on my android phone is wrong. Rather emails are stored in the email account of a user, or the storage offered by the email provider.

If you have an account with outlook, you have email storage of 15GB for free, and 50GB if you subscribe for the Microsoft 365 account. All the emails you received in your email account will be stored in the free 15GB or the 50GB for which you subscribe for. It can never be stored in your phone’s internal storage even if you have used up the storage in your email account.

So any time you see this question, where are emails stored on my android phone, kindly know that it is wrong because emails are not stored on the phone.

Does Gmail use phone storage?

No, Gmail does not use phone storage to store all the emails of a user’s account. Google Gmail has a maximum of free 15GB storage to store all the emails received or sent in Gmail. Though the 15GB is shared among other Google accounts including Google drive.

You can choose to increase the storage by upgrading your account from a free user to a business account if the need may arise.

Even if your Gmail account storage is full, your emails won’t be stored in your phone storage. Rather you won’t receive any new emails in your account.

Where are Gmail emails stored on Android?

Where are emails stored on my android phone

On Android, Gmail emails are stored in your Google account storage. The storage I’m talking about is the free 15GB storage which is shared among other Google accounts in your android phone. They include Google Drive, Google Maps, Google docs, etc.

If you think that Gmail emails are stored in your android phone internal storage, you’re absolutely wrong. Gmail emails will be stored in your phone’s internal storage only when you downloaded and saved it as a file.

You can save a Gmail email or any other email as a text file, pdf file, or any other file. When you do that, it will give you the option to save or download it on your phone.

By so doing, you have saved the email as a file on your android phone.

If I go back to the topic of the post, where are emails stored on my android phone. Emails will be stored in the download folder or the document folder if you saved or downloaded it as a Pdf file or as a text file.

Do emails take up storage on my phone?

Emails do not take up storage on the phone unless you saved or downloaded the emails as a Pdf file or as a text file. As long as you left the emails without downloading or saving them on your phone, they won’t go into your phone storage.

The emails will be stored in the email storage of the user. As I said, all email providers have storage for their emails, with some ranging from 15GB storage to 500GB storage or even unlimited.

This is quite similar to the main topic on where are emails stored on my android phone. This is so wrong if you think that the reason why your phone is full is because of the tons of emails in your email account.

You’re probably wrong to think of that.

Again, emails don’t take up storage in a mobile phone unless you downloaded or saved them in your phone’s internal storage.

Does deleting emails free up space on Gmail?

Yes, deleting emails does free up space on Gmail or any other email account. Once your email account is full, you won’t be able to receive more emails or new emails. This will require you to delete some old or unuseful emails from your Gmail account or any other email account.

This has occurred to me though I was notified by Google that my Google account storage is full and I should upgrade my account from a free user to a business account, or delete some files from the storage.

As you know, the 15GB free storage is shared among other Google apps like Google drive. It was the emails with attachments and files in my Google drive that occupied space in my Google storage, when I deleted some of the files and emails, I started to receive new emails.

What happens when Gmail is full?

If Gmail is full, a user will not receive any new emails to his or her Gmail account until space is created for new emails.

If your Gmail email is full, you need to free up space on your Gmail account.

First, you will have to identify all the emails with a file attachment and get rid of them. Do this if they are no longer useful to you. Most times, emails with file attachments are the cause of Gmail getting filled up and running out of storage.

Once your Gmail account is full, you won’t receive new emails. You should get rid of some emails in your Gmail account and free up space in the storage.

What happens if I clear data on my email app?

If you clear data on your email app, your email app will reset back to default. The default I’m talking about is like when you downloaded and installed the app.

All the signed accounts will be removed, and you will have to sign in on the app to continue using your email account. To clear data on an app means removing all the history, login, Cache, and data saved on the app.

The app will be new like when you first installed it on your phone. This is the same with factory resetting a mobile phone.

If you’re not having any issues with your email app, I don’t see the reason why you want to clear data on the app. To clear data on the app means that the app is having issues like hanging, lagging, not synchronizing, etc. Clearing data on the app will be good and very helpful.

If you want to clear data on the email app because you’re no longer in need of a very particular email account, simply remove the account from the email app.

Does Gmail app Store emails on phone?

No, the Gmail app doesn’t store emails on phone. It stores emails in the Google account storage for Gmail just like using the web browser to access your Gmail account.

All emails with or without an attachment are stored in the Gmail storage and not in your phone’s internal storage. This is why is said that this question of where are emails stored on my android phone is very wrong.

This is what people do think, all emails are stored in the phone’s internal storage. Even the Gmail app does not store emails on phone except for when the user saves or downloads the emails as a file.

  1. Thank you for your post! Nevertheless I have a question still unclear for me, I sign out on my google account on my laptop and automatically it happens the same on the phone, but I am still able to read the mails on my phone. How is it possible if I do not have longer access to the G. server? Thank you again.

  2. If i may ask, what type of phone are you using?

    Android?

I’m sure the google account is still linked to the play services.

You may think you have signed out from the Google account but that is not the case until you remove the google account from your android phone.

As long as you didn’t remove the google account from your android phone, you will still receive mails. Remember, removing is different from deleting.

When you remove the google account from your mobile phone, you won’t receive mails from the Google account.

  3. Hello…I am trying to delete some email addresses from my Galaxy A50 Gmail account. However, I am unable to find a way to do so.
