Why does my message not say delivered? (Explained)

When it comes to sending a text message on a mobile phone, we’ll await to see sent and delivered as this indicates that the recipient to whom the text message is being sent to has received the sent text message on it’s mobile phone.

But the problem is when we don’t see delivered after sending a text message.

Why does my message not say delivered?

When a sent text message doesn’t say delivered, it simply means the recipient haven’t received the sent text message on it’s mobile phone.

However, there are some reasons why a sent text message will not say delivered or doesn’t say delivered and that which I will explain in this article.

Why does my message not say delivered?

A sent text message will not say delivered if the recipient haven’t received the message. A sent text message will only say delivered when the recipient received the message on it’s mobile phone.

However, you should know that you have to enable delivery report on your mobile phone in order to know when a sent text message is delivered to the recipient or not. Most android phones don’t enable delivery report by default, as it is left for the phone user to enable delivery report.

When you must have enabled delivery report on your mobile phone, you will know if your sent messages are delivered or not.

How to enable delivery report on android

It’s very much easy to enable delivery report on android phone. To do so, you have to open your message app and tap on the hamburger menu followed by tapping on settings.

Tap advanced and you will see get sms delivery reports among the options shown on your screen.

Enable get sms delivery reports and you are good to go. Every time you send a text message on your android phone, you will receive a delivery report below the sent text message just like on the picture below.

Going back to the question of the day on why does my message not say delivered, there are several reasons why this is happening to you and I will explain them one after the other.

Reasons why text message doesn’t say delivered

The followings are the reasons why a text message doesn’t say delivered after you have successfully sent it to the receiving phone number.

1. You haven’t enabled delivery report

This is the first and foremost you have to do on your mobile phone, to enable delivery report on your message app.

This is very much possible on android though it is quite different if you are using an iPhone. On iphone, you can only enable read receipts which is only applicable to imessage and not sms text message.

Iphone will only show not delivered if a sent sms text message wasn’t delivered to the recipient. But if you are using an android phone, you have to enable delivery report in order to see delivered or get a delivery report after sending a text message.

2. The recipient is offline

If the problem of text message doesn’t say delivered occurs on a particular phone number, then it simply means the recipient phone or the mobile number is not available or probably offline.

For a sent text message to say delivered, the recipient phone and it’s mobile number must be active else the text message won’t be delivered to the recipient.

It will only show message sent but you won’t see delivered. This is so because the receiving phone number is not active or offline.

3. The recipient blocked your number

If the problem of sent text message not saying delivered after sending a text message on your mobile phone, and this happens to a particular number on your mobile phone, there’s a strong indication that you have been blocked by the person.

In order to confirm it, use a number unknown to the recipient and send a text message to the recipient. If the text message shows delivered then be rest assured that you have been blocked by the recipient.

4. The text message didn’t go through

This is the case if you don’t have an active texting plan or an airtime on your mobile phone and you are sending a text message. There’s no way the text message will go through because you don’t have airtime or texting plan to send a text message on your phone.

5. Poor network reception

Asking why does my message not say delivered after sending a text message on your mobile phone, it may be because of poor network reception on your end or the recipient.

If you have enabled delivery report on your mobile phone and after sending a text message it didn’t show delivered, check if you have a good network reception on your mobile phone.

Sent text message vs delivered text message

Please I want you to know that there is a difference between a text message that says sent and delivered. The two terms sent and delivered are very much different though they seem alike.

A sent text message means the message have been sent out to the recipient. When the recipient received the sent text message on it’s mobile phone, it shows delivered meaning that the recipient has received the sent text message.

So in this aspect of sending a text message, delivered is the final stage which shows or notifies that the text message was successfully sent and delivered to the recipient.

Why imessage doesn’t say delivered?

Imessage doesn’t say delivered if the recipient haven’t received the sent imessage on it’s iPhone or ios device. In some cases imessage will not say delivered if the recipient blocked the sender on it’s iPhone or ios device. 

However, this doesn’t mean that when you send an Imessage to someone and it doesn’t show delivered you conclude that you have been blocked. In most cases the recipient is offline or has no active internet connection as imessage requires internet in order to work.

So if imessage doesn’t say delivered, there are three things involved.

• The recipient imessage is not active or unavailable due to not internet network or poor network reception.
• You have been blocked by the recipient and imessage will never go through.
• You don’t have active internet connection on your iPhone.

Why does my text message say sent and not delivered?

Text message will say sent and this means the message has been sent to the recipient, and if the recipient receives the sent text message on it’s mobile phone, it will show delivered. So as long as the the recipient didn’t receive the sent text message, it will only say or show sent below the text message. 

As long as you have enabled delivery report on your mobile phone, the recipient phone number is active, you are not blocked by the recipient, and there is a good network reception you won’t have any reason to ask why does my message not say delivered because definitely you sent text message will say delivered.
