Imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings? Here’s why

It can be a lot confusing when imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings, but you shouldn’t think so much as I will explain why this is happening.

All you need to know on why calls are going through but not imessage.

First, you shouldn’t conclude that the recipient has automatically blocked your number as it isn’t the case why this is happening.

You are not alone and whereas this isn’t new but rather common, and this is the reason why this is happening to you.

Why imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings?

The reason why iMessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings maybe due to the fact that the recipient has no active internet connection.

On the other hand, iMessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings occurs when iMessage is unavailable and this is caused when there is no active internet connection, DND is enabled, or maybe the recipient disabled imessage on it’s iphone.

imessage doesn't say delivered but phone rings

From the above explanation you should see that one of the main reason why imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings is because iMessage is unavailable on the recipient iPhone.

Now the question is, why would an iMessage not be available and the cellular call is going through?

I have already explained it right in this article.

Aside from that, there are other reasons and I will explain all of them to you.

But you shouldn’t conclude that the recipient blocked your ID on it’s message app because once you’re blocked on the message app, you have automatically been blocked on the recipient iPhone.

So this is not the case of being blocked by the recipient.

Not at all.

Before I proceed, you should make sure that the problem of imessage not delivered but calls go through isn’t caused by you but rather the recipient.

Now listen, if this problem is happening to all your phone contacts, then bear in mind that the problem is from your phone.

However, if this occurs to a particular contact in your iPhone, then the problem is not from your side but rather from the recipient side.

So you have to make sure that you have an active internet connection on your iPhone, DND is not enabled on your iPhone, and your iMessage is active and not disabled.

Now let’s proceed.

Why would an iMessage not be delivered?

There are reasons why an imessage will not be delivered and they include the followings;

1. When imessage is unavailable

This is the number one reason why imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings or imessage will not be delivered because it is not available.

Then you have to ask yourself why imessage is not available in the recipient phone.

Please bear in mind that for the fact that the recipient is using an iphone doesn’t entirely mean the recipient is using Imessage because I’ve seen quite a number of iphone users that disabled imessage on their iphones.

Imessage not available can be caused by these;

Imessage is disabled: The recipient disabled imessage on it’s iPhone will automatically make the imessage to be unavailable, and if you send iMessage to the recipient it will never be delivered because the imessage is unavailable.

Imessage doesn't say delivered but phone rings

In most cases the message will be sent as sms text message.

No active internet connection: The recipient has no active internet connection and this prevents the imessage from being delivered.

Imessage being an instant messaging service requires internet connection to send and receive iMessages, and without an active internet connection imessage will never be sent or delivered.

So both the sender and the recipient must have an active internet connection in order to use the imessage.

You should bear this in mind asking why imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings because it is likely thar the recipient doesn’t have an active internet connection or the imessage is disabled in the recipient iphone.

Imessage bug: This is quite rare though it does happen, when imessage start to misbehave imessages will not be delivered. Mostly this is caused by software update and clearing cache from the imessage fix this type of imessage error.

The recipient phone is switched off or offline: When the phone is switched off or offline without internet, then it simply means that iMessage will be unavailable on the person’s phone.

This literally means that you can’t send and receive iMessages until you have an active internet connection on your phone.

So one of the reasons why iMessage is unavailable is when the recipient phone is switched off or offline. But in this case we have here, the recipient phone is likely to be offline or has no internet connection.

2. Active Do not disturb mode

Talking about iMessage doesn’t say delivered but phone ring, this may be the case of do no disturb mode enabled on the iPhone.

If do not disturb mode is enabled on a mobile phone, both calls and messages will not go through but there are cases where the user exempted calls or a particular contact from do not disturb mode.

In this type of scenario, calls will go through but messages will not.

I know that this is weird but it does happen especially when you want to receive a call from a particular contact. So if imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings, maybe the recipient added imessage to do not disturb mode.

3. Issue with the message app

For the fact that iMessage is not getting delivered but phone rings maybe be caused by issue on the message app.

This is a concern for you if it occurs to all contacts on your phone and not just a particular contact.

To fix this problem you have to check to make sure that iMessage is activated on your iPhone. If iMessage is activated on your iPhone, you should see two or one addresses below iMessage as shown in the picture below.

iMessage

If iMessage is not activated on your iPhone, you won’t see Send and Receive as shown in the above picture.

So you make sure that iMessage is enabled and activated on your iPhone.

So if this is happening to all contacts and not just to a particular contact in your iPhone, kindly turn off or disable iMessage on your iPhone and switch off the phone.

Wait for a couple of seconds or a minute and power on your iPhone once again.

Head over to the settings app, open Messages and enable iMessage.

Wait for iMessage to be enabled on your iPhone and then try to send a message. This should fix the problem unless you will have to reset your phone.

Now if this is happening to a particular contact in your iPhone, I recommend you to enable Send as sms on your iPhone.

What this will do is try to send the iMessage as sms text message when iMessage is unavailable.

However, the major disadvantage of it is that there’s no delivery report and it is quite difficult to find out if the recipient has received the sent message.

3. You are indeed blocked

This is something that we wouldn’t want to hear but it is likely to be the problem especially if imessage will never get delivered for a particular contact even after several days and several imessages sent.

This is a strong indication that the recipient has blocked your account.

Someone can block you on it’s imessage or message app but you can still call the call using the cellular network service. But first you must confirm thar indeed the recipient has blocked your account.

To do so you have to use another apple ID to send an imessage to the recipient and check if it will be delivered. If it does then be rest assured that the recipient blocked you on it’s message app and that’s why imessage doesn’t say delivered but phone rings.

Am I blocked if my iMessage doesn’t say delivered?

You are not necessarily blocked if the imessage doesn’t say delivered because no active internet connection will make the imessage not be delivered or when the imessage is unavailable.

You shouldn’t be so bothered if you sent imessage doesn’t say delivered because the recipient imessage may not be available.

Where the problem lies if this continues after several days and still imessages can’t be delivered then it is a strong indication that the recipient has blocked you. But I always recommend you to confirm before coming to a conclusion that you have been blocked and that’s why your iMessages isn’t delivering.

You can use your friends apple ID to send an imessage to the recipient. If still it didn’t get delivered then the recipient imessage is not available but if it get delivered, I’m sorry the recipient indeed blocked you.

Will iPhone still ring if blocked?

Iphone will never ring if the caller is blocked, instead the caller will be redirected to voicemail or the call ends abruptly if the recipient doesn’t have a voicemail.

Please don’t expect a call ti ring if blocked on iphone and this is also applied to other mobile phones like Samsung phones, Google pixel phones, etc.

On samsung, calls will never ring instead what the caller will be seeing is number busy and this will confuse the caller into thinking the recipient is busy with other calls or on another call. But the truth is the caller is blocked by the recipient.

On iphone, if the recipient iphone has an active voicemail the caller will be redirected to the voicemail but if not, the call will end abruptly.

imessage not delivered but calls go through

This is caused by different reasons which ranges from the sender being blocked by the recipient, the imessage not available or the recipient doesn’t have an active internet connection.

If someone blocked you on imessage, definitely the person will blocked you on it’s iPhone so probably calls won’t go through as well. So in this case you are not blocked by the person.

From what I observed, the recipient imessage is not available or there’s no active internet connection like an available Wi-Fi or a cellular data on the recipient phone.

However, I will recommend you to send an sms text message and see if will go through, and if it does then be rest assured that the recipient didn’t block you on it’s imessage. But rather the recipient imessage is not available.

So phone ringing but messages not delivering iphone maybe due to iMessage not being available or the recipient’s phone is on do not disturb mode and calls were exempted.

Why is the phone ringing but message not delivered?

If a phone is ringing but sms text message isn’t getting delivered, then the recipient must have blocked your number on it’s message app. However, if in terms of imessage it may not necessarily mean blocked but rather the imessage is not available or no active internet connection.

So whenever phone ringing but message not delivered, you may be blocked if it is sms text message and this is also applicable to calls going through but not texts iphone.

Will an iPhone ring if your blocked?

The straight answer is no. The phone will never ring if you have been blocked by the recipient, instead it will show user busy and end right away.

Both on iPhone and Samsung phones, when a recipient blocks you, it will show user busy if the recipient has no active voicemail. If the recipient do have a voicemail, you will be redirected straight to voicemail.
