Why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked? Answered

How do you feel when your text messages turn from blue to green if you are using an iPhone knowing fully well that the recipient is using an iPhone and which should be blue in color (iMessage).

There are several reasons why a text messages turn from blue to green when sending a text message to a fellow iPhone user and that which I will explain to you in this article of why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked.

But first, I want you to know that when a text message turns from blue to green you are not blocked by the recipient.

In this type of scenario, there are reasons for that and which I have explained below.

Why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked?

The reason why text messages turn from blue to green is simply because the recipient phone number is not activated with iMessage.

This is when you are sending messages on iPhone.

This is the very first major reason why sending an iMessage will automatically turn into sms text message which is green in color.

Now it look very confusing especially if you have been sending iMessages to that very contact and all a sudden the text messages are now green in color indicating sms text message which requires and uses the cellular network service instead of internet.

Before going further into the question of the day on why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked, let me explain a bit more about the green text message and blue text message on iPhone.

What is green text message on iPhone

Green text message

The default sms text message on the iPhone is green, which uses the cellular network to transfer messages from one user to another.

A sim card, cellular network service, and a texting plan or airtime are all required to send a green text message, also known as a sms text message.

You can send text messages using the default sms text message, but you won’t be able to transmit photographs, files, or documents using this method; instead, you’ll need to use mms messaging.

You can’t send the basic sms text message on your iPhone without an active cellular network service, and a sim card is required for green text messages on iPhone as well.

If you wish to send a message when your iMessage is unavailable, I propose enabling the green text message.

Please keep in mind that if you don’t have an active internet connection, your iMessage will not be available or active; I’ll go over this in more detail later in this article.

Now let me show you how to enable green text message on your iPhone especially when iMessage is not available.

How to enable the green text message on iPhone

1. To enable sms text message on iphone, simply open the settings app and scroll down to MESSAGES and open it.

What follows next after enabling sms text message

After you have enabled send as sms text message on your iPhone, you will now be able to send the default green sms text messages.

The sms text message will be useful if your iMessage is unavailable or if you are sending messages to someone who does not have an iPhone or who does not use iMessage.

Provided you’re in a circumstance where you don’t have access to an active internet connection, such as Wi-Fi or cellular data, sms text messages will come to your rescue, but only if you have a texting plan or airtime.

Also you can send sms green text messages to android phone users or to someone not using iPhone or te iMessage like the feature phone users.

Mind you you can send sms text messages to those using google voice and others.

This is why the default sms text message is still very important today aside from the fact we now have iMessage, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, whatsapp, viber, etc.

The iMessage

The iMessage

iMessage, which is blue in color, is another way to send texts on the iPhone. Apple released iMessage, an instant messaging service, in 2011 allowing Apple users to send messages via their Apple devices.

iMessage is now exclusively available on Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

For you to use iMessage on your iPhone or iPad, these requirements are needed;

  • You must have an active internet connection on your device.
  • iMessage must be enabled.
  • The recipient must have iMessage on it’s device as well.

These are very essential when it comes to sending iMessages on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple watch.

How to enable iMessage on iPhone

By default iMessage is enabled but it is commendable to check to see if everything in order.

Now to enable or turn on iMessage on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple, open the settings app, scroll down and open messages.

Look closely and you will see where it states iMessage just like on the picture below.

iMessage

As you can see iMessage is enabled and also activated and that’s why you are seeing Send & Receive has two addresses which are my phone number and my Apple ID.

Now let’s head back to the question being asked on why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked.

Reasons why text message turn from blue to green

The main reasons why text messages turn from blue to green on iPhone;

  • The phone number you are sending the message to is not activated with iMessage
  • The recipient is using android phone or a feature phone.
  • The sender’s iMessage is not active or unavailable.
  • The sender is using a phone number not activated with iMessage to send a message on it’s iPhone.

These are the main reasons why your text messages turn from blue to green and not that you have been blocked the recipient.

I will go ahead to explain them one after the other.

1. The phone number you are sending messages is not activated with iMessage

Both the recipient’s and sender’s phone numbers must be activated with iMessage for it to work; otherwise, it will send as a green sms text message.

When it comes to why does imessage turn green when blocked, it’s most likely because the receiver phone number isn’t linked or active with iMessage, which is why it’s being sent as a text message.

This is because it normally happens when text messages are sent to a phone number rather than an Apple ID, which is an email address. If you send a text message to an email address or Apple ID that is no longer linked to iMessage, the message will be marked as not delivered.

2. The sender’s iMessage is not active or unavailable

As I previously stated, iMessage must be available and active in order for it to function; otherwise, you will be sending SMS text messages on your iPhone.

If you accidentally disabled your iMessage, you must reactivate it. To do so, go to the settings app and scroll down to messages, which you may then open.

iMessage will appear right there, and it will be activated by default. But if it isn’t, you’ll have to activate it by sliding the button, which will turn green.

Once you enable iMessage on your iPhone, you have to wait for it to activate both your phone number and Apple ID for the iMessage. After it is done with the activation, below iMessage you will see Send and Receive 2 Addresses which are your phone number and your Apple ID.

Kindly note that if you don’t have a sim card in your iPhone while activating iMessage, it will only activate with your apple ID and you will see one address instead of two addresses.

3. The recipient is using android phone or a feature phone

Another reason why when sending a text message to someone, iMessage displays green instead of blue is because of this. You’re most likely sending a text message to an Android user rather than an iPhone user.

Because iMessage is not available on Android, the text message will be green in color, indicating that it is a text message sent by SMS or a cellular network provider.

4. The sender is using a phone number not activated with iMessage to send a message on it’s iPhone

Lastly, the problem of iMessage sending green text message to a fellow iPhone user may be from you and simply because your phone number is no longer activated with iMessage.

So you better head over to the settings app and open messages. Go to iMessage and open the addresses activated with iMessage and see if your phone is activated with iMessage or not.

However, if your Apple ID is activated with iMessage and you are sending a text message to a fellow iPhone user, it will automatically use your Apple ID to send the text message and which will be blue in color signifying iMessage.

Lastly before I go, why did my text messages turn from blue to green am i blocked? The reason why text messages turn from blue to green is because the recipient phone number is not activated with iMessage.
