There are many ways which one can hide it’s location and this includes airplane or flight mode. But the question is if truly can someone see your location if your phone is on airplane mode, well I have the answer for you in this article.
First, I would like you to know that I made my research on both android and iPhone so as to know if I enable airplane mode on my phone will I still be tracked or probably not.
Let’s get straight to the answer.
Can someone see your location if your phone is on airplane mode?
The answer is yes. Someone can still see your location even if your phone is on airplane mode as long as you have an active Wi-Fi on your phone.
Talking about the airplane mode, it doesn’t prevent Wi-Fi from working on a phone. At first airplane mode will automatically disable Wi-Fi but afterwards you can still enable Wi-Fi whilst your phone is on airplane mode.
For location services and being able to track and see someone location, there must be an active internet connection on the person’s phone. Without any active internet connection it is quite difficult to track someone except through phone calls which doesn’t work on airplane mode.

How does airplane mode work?
Airplane mode is a feature that Almost all smartphones, laptops, and similar devices have the flight mode feature. When you enable airplane mode, all signal transmission from your device is halted. When you turn it on, you’ll see an airplane icon in your phone’s status bar.
It is called flight mode simply because many airlines prohibit wireless devices on their planes, especially during takeoff and landing, and which many people use airplane mode.
What Airplane Mode Do On A Smartphone:
Airplane mode disables all wireless functions of your phone or laptop, and this includes the followings;
- Cellular connection: You can’t make calls, receive calls, send and receive text messages, or use mobile data to access the internet.
- Wi-Fi: Your device will disconnect from any existing Wi-Fi connections immediately you enable airplane mode.
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth is a short-range connection that lets you link your phone to speakers, headphones, and more. Airplane mode disables this.
For the fact that airplane mode automatically disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth immediately it is enabled on a phone or on a computer, you can manually enable it on your device after enabling airplane mode.
That is to say even though your phone or computer is on airplane mode, you can still go ahead to enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth even when your phone is on airplane mode.
This is the reason why irrespective of the fact that your phone is on airplane mode, you can still be tracked as long as you have an active Wi-Fi on your phone.
If you are using a cellular data you can’t be tracked as airplane mode completely disable cellular network service and which cannot work as long as airplane mode is enabled on a phone.
How does location services and location sharing work
Both on android and iPhone you must enable location or location services in other to share location with someone close to you.
Asking can someone see your location if your phone is on airplane mode, let me give you a quick explanation on how location services and location sharing work.
Location services is a feature which allows one to be able to track and see people’s locations on it’s device. With location services, you can use find my app to see people’s locations and as well they will also be able to see your location but if only if you and the other person is sharing location with each other.
For you to use map on your phone, you must enable location on your android phone or location services on your iPhone.
For you to be able to see other person’s location on your device, the person must share it’s location with you. It is difficult to see a location of someone who is not sharing location with you unless you use other illegal methods.
For location services and location sharing to work and track someone on iMessage or find my app or through Google map, you and the other person must have an active internet connection.
Without an active internet connection you won’t be able to see the person’s current location.
As location services and location sharing doesn’t make use of a person’s phone number but rather the phone, the google account or the Apple ID, and requires internet connection, you can track and see someone’s location even when the person’s phone is on airplane mode.

Can someone see your location on airplane mode with WiFi?
The answer is yes. Someone can see your location on airplane mode with WiFi as airplane mode doesn’t prevent Wi-Fi from working on a device.
Location services requires internet connection and if you have an active Wi-Fi whilst your phone is on airplane mode, someone you are sharing location with, will still be able to see your location on it’s device.
However, if after enabling airplane mode on your device and you didn’t enable Wi-Fi which makes your phone not to have an active internet connection, no one will be able to see your current location because location services will not get updated.
Location services updates when the phone has an active internet connection.
Does Airplane mode hide your location?
Airplane mode doesn’t necessarily hide someone’s location unless the person has no active Wi-Fi on it’s device.
If you are using a cellular data on your device, airplane mode will prevent people you are sharing location with, from seeing your current location simply because it will disable cellular network service and as well as cellular data.
However, it is similar to when you turn off cellular data or Wi-Fi on your cell phone.
If you enabled the flight mode on your device but has an active Wi-Fi, please bear in mind that your location will be seen and thanks to the active Wi-Fi available on your phone.
And if you don’t want to be tracked at all, then you have to disable location services and location sharing on your phone. This will prevent someone from seeing your current location even when you are sharing location with them.
The only way to hide your location is to disable location on Android, location services and location sharing on iPhone and you are good to go. For people tracking you illegally, please be wary of any unknown links you click on your device or any web page as hackers use this method to track someone or collect information about the person.

Does Find My Friends work on Airplane mode?
Find my friends will definitely work on airplane mode but only if there is an internet connection like the Wi-Fi. If you are using a cellular data for your internet activity, then find my friends will not work.
As long as you have an internet on your phone, find my friends will work perfectly fine as it doesn’t necessarily require a cellular network service unless for those using cellular data and not Wi-Fi.
Does Airplane mode turn off location services Android?
The answer is no. Airplane mode doesn’t turn off location services on android but rather it will disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular network service or radio service on android. You can only manually disable location services on both android and iPhone.
Once you enabled airplane mode on your device, location services will still be turned on until you turn off the service or perform a factory reset your phone.
What happens to your location when you turn on Airplane mode?
Your location will no longer update to your current location if you are using a cellular data as airplane mode will completely disable it. But if you are using a Wi-Fi for your internet activity, airplane mode will also disable it but if you go ahead to enable Wi-Fi whilst your phone is on flight mode, your location will be updated and seen by others sharing location with you.
For the fact that location services and location sharing requires internet connection which is available on Wi-Fi and cellular data, airplane doesn’t have any effect on it unless you are using a cellular data.
Lastly, can someone see your location if your phone is on airplane mode?
The answer is yes. Someone can still see your location even if your phone is on airplane mode as long as you have an active Wi-Fi on your phone.
