Samsung smart switch, one of the way by which a samsung or Android phone user can transfer data from old samsung phone to a new samsung phone.
For me, i use it to transfer data from my phone and to any Samsung phone around me.
What I love most is being able to transfer apps from one samsung phone to another seamlessly. Now the question is, do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch?
This question is very much important cause u know that some newbies might believe that samsung switch requires a sim card and that is what I will clarify on this post.
I will also explain what does smart switch do and how you can move data and files from one samsung phone to another. Now let’s proceed.
Do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch
Absolutely no, you don’t need a sim card or even internet network to use samsung smart switch to transfer data from one phone to another. It works one hundred percent without a SIM card or a network connection.
If you like remove your sim card or have your sim card in your phone, samsung smart switch will still work. It only requires the use of a wifi or the USB cable to transfer data from one samsung phone to another.
According to Samsung, the Samsung smart switch is used to transfer data from old phone to a new phone. For me, i use it to transfer data or apps between my two samsung phones or any other phone.
So asking if do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch is very wrong cause the switch works with or without a sim card. It only makes use of the wifi or the USB cable to transfer files and not a sim card or internet network.
Does samsung smart switch need to be on both phones
Yes of course. In order to use the Samsung smart switch for data transfer, the app need to be installed on both phones.
How do you expect to transfer files or data from your using to another phone without having the smart switch app installed on the two phones?
It is not possible at all. You need to have the app on both devices cause one phone will be sending the files, while the other will be receiving the files.
You need to ask yourself this question, can you send a file using xender or shareIt without having the app on both phones, definitely it is not possible cause the app needs to be installed on both phones.
Looking at the question once again, does samsung smart switch need to be on both phones?
The answer is yes. You must have the Samsung smart switch on both phones in order to use the app for file transfer between two mobile phones. Remember no sim card is required but rather a wifi or a USB cable and you’re good to go.
Does smart switch delete data from old phone
Absolutely no. Samsung smart doesn’t delete data from the old phone after transferring data to a new phone. The data and files will still remain in the old phone except for if the user go ahead to delete the files and data from the old phone.
Remember, I said that I use the Samsung switch app to transfer files between my two phones and not just old phone and new phone. If I want to transfer apps between my phones, I make use of the Samsung smart switch and when I’m done it doesn’t delete the apps on my sending phone.
This is the same if I’m sending contacts between my phones, it doesn’t delete the constants on my old phone, the contacts will still remain in the old phone when I’m done transferring it to my new phone.
So asking this question of does smart switch delete data from old phone shouldn’t worry you cause the data on the old phone won’t be deleted unless the user gets rid of them after transferring the data to the new phone.
Having answered the questions of do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch, does samsung smart switch need to be on both phones, and does smart switch delete data from old phone, let’s move forward to how it works and how you can use the Samsung smart switch on your mobile phone.
Remember there’s a samsung smart switch for windows and Mac, but I’m talking about the smart switch mobile app.

Does smart switch copy or move data
The smart switch do copy or transfer data from one phone to another phone, it does move data but rather transfer or copy the data.
This is the work of the smart switch, to transfer data and files from one samsung phone to another especially from an old phone to a new phone.
And remember the answer I gave to this question of do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch, cause also it doesn’t need a sim card but rather a wifi or a USB cable to transfer the files or data.
Once again, the smart switch does not copy or move data but rather transfer data from one mobile phone to another seamlessly. One major thing I noticed is that it is not so fast especially when you compare it with Samsung quick share, or the google android nearby share.
Having answered all these questions including the main topic, do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch, let’s see how you can use the Samsung smart switch to transfer data and files between two mobile phones.
How to use samsung smart switch to transfer data and files between two phones
Now this is very crucial and you should pay much attention especially if you’re a newbie to the Samsung smart switch.
To transfer data using the samsung smart switch, you need to first have the app on both phones. You can download and install the apps from the Google play store.
After the installation, open the app on both phones to get started.
You have two options to transfer files using the smart switch, I prefer and always use the wireless method than the USB cable.
For the USB cable, you need to have a USB connector to connect the two phones using a USB cable, while wireless only use the wifi to transfer the data.
Now let’s proceed.
Open the Samsung smart switch on both phones and tap on send data or receive data on each of the phones. You will have to tap send data on the phone sending the data and files, and receive data on the receiving phone.
On the sending phone, tap wireless or cable depending on the mode which you want to transfer the data and files. While on the receiving phone tap on galaxy/android if you’re receiving the data from an android phone or a samsung phone.
Tap on iphone/iPad if you’re receiving the data from iPhone or iPad, and finally tap on windows phone if you’re receiving the data from a windows phone. So you have to select the source of your file transfer.
When you tap on the source, tap wireless or cable depending on how you’re connected to the sending phone and proceed to the next level.
It will search for a nearby phone connected to samsung smart switch, and on the sending phone tap on accept and it will load the data on the phone. Now you’re set and read to transfer data using the samsung smart switch.
If you’re OK with all the marked items, kindly tap on the transfer button below your screen but if not, select the data and files which you wa to transfer. Again you will have to make sure that you enough memory in order to receive the data and files.
Just like I said, the Samsung smart switch can transfer accounts which includes the google account, calls and contacts, messages, apps, phone settings, home screen, secure folder, images, audio, and documents and files and lastly files from the SD card.
For example, I only want to receive apps from the sending phone. What I will do is to untick the rest options leaving apps and afterwards I will tap on the transfer button, immediately it will transfer the apps to the receiving phone.
After transferring the apps, it will also install the apps. Again if i have some apps that I want to receive, what I will do is to tap on the arrow at the end of apps to open the options like on the picture below.
It will open more options and I will select the apps which I want to receive on my phone or new phone. After selecting the apps, I will tap on done, and it will take me to the homescreen and later I will tap on the transfer button to transfer the selected apps on my phone.
This is also the same with other options like for example messages. You will see option to select messages of 1 year, six months, three months, last 2 years, last 30 years, etc.
So when you’re done selecting the options, tap on the transfer button and it will immediately transfer the data and files to the receiving phone. Wait until the files are completely transferred to the receiving phone and you can exit the app on both phones.
So this is how to use samsung smart switch to transfer data from samsung phone to samsung or any other Android phone though I’m yet try this on any other android phone. Once again remember my answer to the question of do i need a sim card in both phones to use samsung smart switch.
And as you can see, you don’t a sim card but rather a USB cable or the wifi. The smart switch will turn on the wifi automatically and also turn it off when you’re done and exit the application.
