Kindly note that this method works on iphone 8, iPhone 8 plus, iPhone x, iPhone xr, iPhone xs, iPhone xs max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 pro max, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Pro, and IPhone 12 pro max.
If you’re using the iphone 7 and iPhone plus; kindly tap hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button at same time. Don’t remove your fingers, keep holding both buttons until the screen turns black and you’ll the Apple logo.
For those using the iphone 6 below, Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at same time until you see the Apple logo shows up on your screen.
This is the first fix I have for you on iphone has been charging for hours but wont turn on. It truly worked for me so I recommend you trying this first, and if it didn’t work out for you, you can then move onto the next step.
2. Use another cable
Another reason that causes this type of problem on iphones is the lightning cable. Maybe the cable has worn out or is faulty and which you don’t know about it.
So if you have any lightning cable around it, use the cable to charge your Apple iPhone for about ten to fifteen minutes and try power it on. If it does power on, then the problem you’re having is caused by your lightning cable.

3. Use another wall socket or Power extension
This does happen though very rare. I’m talking about the wall socket or power extension causing the problem of iphone has been charging for hours but wont turn on.
I’ve seen this happen and it was caused by a power extension cord used in charging the iPhone. The power extension cord was faulty and the user didn’t know about it. Immediately he changed to another power extension cord and charged his for about thirty minutes, he pressed the power button and he phone was on.
This now made him to believe that it was the power extension cord that caused the problem and not really his iphone.
So in this case you should try a different power extension cord or wall socket and see if it will resolve your issue on iphone has been charging for hours but wont turn on.
4. Hard reset your iphone
I know this is one method which you wouldn’t want to see or to do especially if you don’t have any backup for your phone. However, you don’t have any other option left if the three methods didn’t work for you.
I’m sorry but you will have to hard reset your iphone and in most cases it does help to rectify the issue if the problem is a software related issue.

However, if after hard resetting you phone and still it didn’t work, then you only have one option. And that is;
5. Taking your phone to a repair
That’s the only last option you have, taking your iphone to a phone repairer. If the warranty is still valid, take the phone to any Apple store around you. But if the warranty is exceeded, then you’ll have to take it to a good phone engineer.
Definitely the phone engineer should resolve the problem with your phone, and also tell you what actually went wrong and what really caused the problem.

How long does it take for a dead iphone to turn on
From my own experience, it takes about fifteen minutes for a dead iphone to turn on. The maximum I’ve seen is thirty minutes though I purposely left the phone on charging for about thirty minutes and powered it on.
I do recommend you to leave it on charging for about fifteen minutes, and then power it on. If it didn’t power on, plug it again for another fifteen minutes and power the phone on. This time, it should power on and if it didn’t, use the above methods to resolve the issue.
