Ever wondered the reason or what does it mean when imessage doesn’t say delivered even after several hours and days, you are not along in this type of issue as I myself have seen it happen to me a couple of times.
From my experience I will explain the main reasons why iMessage will never say delivered even if your mind tells you that you are not blocked by the person.
What does it mean when imessage doesn’t say delivered?
When iMessage doesn’t say delivered, it literally means that the recipient haven’t received the sent iMessage on it’s phone.
iMessage must say delivered to indicate or show that truly the recipient has received the sent iMessage. Once iMessage say delivered it simply means that the recipient has received your iMessage, and if it shows read then it means that the recipient has opened and read the message.
There are several reasons why iMessage doesn’t say delivered after sending a message to a recipient. Many a time when this happens we usually think the recipient has blocked us on it’s message app, but that isn’t always the case.
Like I said, there are several reasons why iMessage doesn’t say delivered after sending a message to a recipient and that which I will explain one after the other.
Reasons why iMessage doesn’t say delivered
Below are the reasons why iMessage doesn’t say delivered;
- iMessage not available
- No available internet connection
- Being blocked by the recipient
These are the three major cause of iMessage not getting delivered after sending to a recipient.
Now let me explain them one after the other.
1. When iMessage not available
For iMessage to get delivered it must be available and active on both the sender’s phone and the recipient phone as well. In a situation whereby iMessage is unavailable on the recipient iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple watch, iMessage will never say delivered.
Now the question will be;
What will make iMessage not be available on the recipient apple device?
They are as follows;
The Recipient iMessage is Disabled: If someone disable iMessage on it’s Apple device, there is no way iMessage will be delivered to the person’s device as it is deemed not to be available.
iMessage will only say delivered when it is available and active on an Apple device like the iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple watch.
Talking about disabling iMessage, I mean to say to turn it off on the settings app. Let me show you how it is done.
Get started by opening the settings app and scroll down to messages and open it.
Look at the options presented to you and you will see iMessage just like on the picture below.
Now you go ahead and toggle on the iMessage button to turn it off. Once you have done that, you are good to go.
Now no one will be able to send iMessages to your iPhone or any Apple device as iMessage will be unavailable. Now if you go back and enable iMessage on your Apple device, iMessage will be available once again and which you will start receiving iMessages.
When the recipient phone is switched off or in offline mode: When a phone is switched off, iMessage will be unavailable and this will prevent iMessage from getting delivered to the recipient.
Trying to know the reason why iMessage is not saying delivered, it may be due to the fact that the recipient phone is switched off or offline which in turn makes iMessage not to be available.
If you happen to send a message to someone and the message shows green, it also means that iMessage is not available on the recipient phone simply because the recipient is not using an iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple watch.
Also if the recipient number is not linked to iMessage it will also turn green in color.

2. No available internet connection
As iMessage is an instant messaging service, it requires internet connection like the cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. Any of the two must be active for you to send and receive iMessages on your device.
Now you happen to send an iMessage to someone and which didn’t say delivered afterwards, it may be due to the fact that the recipient phone has no active internet connection.
Most times if i don’t want to be disturbed with any sort of calls, text messages, or notifications i find myself putting my phone on airplane mode. Once I have done that I wouldn’t bother to enable Wi-Fi so as to prevent messages from getting to my phone.
So in this type of situation if someone sends an iMessage to my number or Apple ID, it will never say delivered simply because I have no active internet connection on my cell phone.
Once I enable Wi-Fi or cellular data on my cellphone, I will receive the sent iMessage and thar very moment it will say delivered on the sender’s phone.
3. Being blocked by the recipient
This is one heck of a popular reason why iMessage doesn’t say delivered especially after several days and couple of messages.
This is something you wouldn’t want to hear especially if you value the recipient.
Now if you happen to send several iMessages that doesn’t seem to get delivered to this very recipient on your iPhone or iPad, it may be due to the fact that the recipient has blocked your Apple ID or number on it’s message app.
You can never tell until you perform a test so as to be sure that you have been blocked by the recipient.
What test I’m talking about?
The test I’m talking about is to use another apple id or phone number to send a message to the recipient.
So all you have to do is to create another apple ID using another email address, logout your previous apple ID from your phone and login using the newly created apple ID
Activate iMessage with the newly created apple ID and you can Noe send iMessage to the recipient. Definitely it will go through and get delivered but;
The recipient might block you once again.
If you don’t want to go through this process you can simply use someone’s iPhone or iPad and send a message to the recipient. If it gets delivered then it simply means that truly the recipient blocked your Apple ID or phone number on it’s message app.
What does it mean when imessage says delivered but not read?
When imessage says delivered but not read, it simply means that the sent iMessage has been delivered to the recipient device but the recipient is yet t open and read the message.
As long as iMessage says delivered you shouldn’t get disturb about it cause the recipient has indeed received the message as long as it shows delivered.
Definitely once a recipient see the sent iMessage he or she will open the message and by then it will show read.
Kindly note that if the recipient disable read receipt on it’s read receipt it won’t show if the recipient has opened and read the iMessage you sent.
It will only show delivered it won’t show read.
What does it mean when imessage says not delivered in red?
This usually caused if the message is sent to a contact that was previously activated with iMessage.
What I’m trying to say is that if someone happens to change the Apple ID or the phone number activated with it’s iMessage, recent iMessages sent to the Apple ID or phone number will fail to deliver and instead it will show not delivered in red with an exclamation mark.
Below is the typical example of what I’m talking about.
What does it mean when imessage says delivered on my ipad but not my iphone?
This usually occur when iMessage is available and active on iPad but not available on iphone. Also if there’s no active internet connection on your IPhone iMessage will never say delivered.
If you have your Apple ID connected to both your iPhone and iPad which simply means you can receive iMessages on any of the devices or send iMessages on any of the devices.
Once someone sent a message to you and which iMessage is not available or active on your iPhone, the sent iMessage will be delivered to your iPad if iMessage is available and active on the iPad.
What does it mean when imessage doesn’t say delivered or read?
If iMessage doesn’t say delivered or read, it simply means the sent message was not delivered to the recipient phone.
Like I said earlier on, some of the reasons why iMessage doesn’t say delivered is because of these reasons; iMessage not available, no available internet connection and being blocked by the recipient.

When iMessage is blocked, it doesn’t say delivered or even. Below is a typical example of what iMessage look when blocked by the recipient.
