When it comes to sending messages especially audio messages on a given iPhone, one of the common questions being asked is how do you know if someone heard your audio message on iPhone.
The message will definitely say delivered meaning that the recipient received the message, but right here the main focus is to know when the recipient listened to the received audio file.
In this article I got you covered as I will explain to you how you can detect or know if a recipient indeed opened your audio message and listened to the message on their iPhone.
This article will focus more on iMessage and whatsapp as they are the popular instant messaging apps and services in the world today compared to any other and except for rcs chat which is for android.
How do you know if someone heard your audio message on iPhone?
If someone heard your audio message on iPhone, it will display played and kept below the sent audio message.
This is only available on iMessage.
For a better understanding as to what I’m talking about, I will explain the question of how do you know if someone heard your audio message on iPhone in two ways and which is;
- iMessage
How to know if someone heard your audio on iMessage?
On iMessage, once a recipient opened and listened to the audio message, it will display played or kept below the sent audio message on your iMessage.
Below is a typical example of what I’m talking about.
The picture above explains to you when a recipient has opened and listened to your sent audio message on iMessage.
Now if the recipient happen to receive the audio file but didn’t open it, on your iMessage what you will see is delivered below the sent audio message.
If you care to take a good look at the picture you will notices that the first audio message showed Kept, whilst the audio message below it showed played.
Why this is so because I set my audio messages never to expire on my iPhone.
New Update
After the release of IOS 16.2 update, if a recipient listened to the audio file, it will show Kept but only if the recipient set audio messages not to expire on their iPhone.
Here’s an example.
If you set your audio messages to expire after two minutes, once you sent the audio message it will be removed from your iPhone after two minutes if sending the audio file and if the recipient has received the audio message.
Note: If you set your audio message never to expire, after sending an audio message to a recipient and the person opens and listen to the audio message, it will first show played below the audio message and after a second it will show kept.
This is why you are are seeing kept below the first audio message.
So after sending an audio message and you saw kept below the sent audio message, kindly know the the recipient has opened and heard the message.
Lastly, if the recipient turned off Read receipt on it’s iMessage, you can’t tell if the person has heard your audio message.
In order to know if someone heard your audio message on iPhone, read receipt must be enabled.
Asking how do you know if someone heard your voice message on iphone, kindly note that once you see played below the sent audio message, it simply means that the recipient has heard the message.
How to set iMessage audio never to expire
By default, iMessage audio message will automatically expire and get deleted after two minutes of the recipient opening and listening to the audio file.
However, you can prevent iMessage audio message from expiring.
To do so, open the settings and scroll down to messages and tap to open it as well.
Scroll down until you see AUDIO MESSAGES.
You will see two options which are Expire and Raise to listen. Tap on expire and set it to never.
Once you have set your audio messages never to expire, they remain in your iPhone and won’t get deleted after two minutes.
Do audio messages expire if not opened?
The answer is no. As long as you didn’t open the received audio messages on your phone, it will not expire.
Kindly note that audio messages will only expire if you opened and listened to them but only if you set it to expire.
But I don’t recommend doing so unless you don’t care about received audio messages on your phone.
However, if you don’t set your audio messages never to expire, it won’t expire after two minutes of opening the file.
So if you fancy having audio or voice messages kept on your iPhone and wouldn’t want them to automatically get deleted after you must have opened them, kindly go your settings and set your audio messages never to expire.
