I once received a complaint from a friend who recently bought the Samsung Galaxy s20, he complained that if he deletes a file especially a large file, his internal storage still remain the same and no space is freed up.
He tried to figure out what could be the cause of the problem but couldn’t and was fed up trying to find the solution. At one point he thought his phone of two weeks has developed a fault and even planned on taking it to a phone engineer.
As we were discussing, he mentioned his new phone problem and I couldn’t help but to laugh. I explained everything to him and he realized that his new phone isn’t faulty but rather what is happening is the handwork of the Samsung trash folder.
For the newbies, trash folder Samsung is a folder that stores all temporary deleted files on your samsung android phone and tablet.
It works just like the recycle bin on the computer, as you delete a file, it doesn’t get deleted permanently but temporarily and which you can restore the file(s) or have it deleted permanently.

The Samsung trash folder is a lot helpful if you mistakenly deleted a file from your Samsung phone or tablet. I’ve been in this situation and thanks to the trash folder I restored the file back to my SD card.
Irrespective of the fact that the Samsung trash folder is nice and very useful, it has one major disadvantage and that is, it uses the internal storage. The more files that goes into trash folder, the more space it occupies on your internal storage.
This is why it is recommended to permanently delete files that you won’t need again especially the large files.
How to enable Samsung trash folder
Normally, the trash folder Samsung is pre-enabled but in the case you want to enable or probably disable the Samsung trash folder, below is how you can go about it.

To get started, go to my files on your Samsung phone or tablet and tap to open. Click on the three vertical dots located at the top right corner of your screen.
When you do that, you’ll see trash. However, incase you didn’t see it, click on settings. There you’ll see the option to enable trash on your Samsung phone and tablet.
It is left for you to toggle it on or off. For me, i recommend to enable the Samsung trash folder on your Samsung phone and tablet.

To find the Samsung trash folder on your Samsung phone or tablet, simply go to my files and open it. On the top right corner on your screen, click on the three vertical dots.
You’ll see options displayed on your screen and this will include trash. Simply tap on it and it will leas you to what you’re looking for, the Samsung trash folder.
Right there you’ll see all the deleted files, both big and small packed right there. Now it is left for you to permanently delete all of them or the ones you want to get rid of.
To delete all the files or some files, tap on edit located at the top corner or you press hold a particular file. By doing so, you’ll be given the option to select more files by checking or ticking them.
Below your screen you’ll see three options which includes delete and restore. Click on delete to permanently get rid of the file from your Samsung phone or tablet, or restore to bring it back to your internal storage or SD card.
When you restore a deleted file from the Samsung trash folder, it goes straight to the folder where you deleted it from.
For example, I deleted a media file which was saved in DCIM folder. If I restore it back, it will be restored back into the DCIM folder cause that’s where I deleted the media file from.

Samsung gallery trash folder
There’s no difference between the trash folder and the samsung gallery trash folder. You can access your gallery trash bin folder using the above method or with this method below.
Locate and open the gallery app on your Samsung phone or tablet. Look closely and you’ll see a three vertical dots, tap on that icon to display more options for you.
You’ll see trash and you have to tap on it. Next window is all your deleted pictures or photos displayed on your screen.
Mind you it only pictures taken from your phone as you won’t see downloaded pictures in the samsung gallery trash folder.
Right there you’ll see the option to empty the Samsung trash folder at once or select the ones you want to get rid of by simply clicking on the edit, and tick them. Afterwards click on the delete button and the pictures will be deleted permanently from your phone or tablet.

Advantages of the Samsung trash folder
1. It helps to restore files or documents mistakenly deleted by the user. Having seen myself in this situation before, I really thank Samsung for adding this feature in their smartphones.
2. To hide files. I know this might sound weird but that’s the truth. You can use the Samsung trash folder to hide files from a third party, and restore it anytime you need the files.
Instead of you to use an app to hide some files like videos m from a third party, you delete them temporarily to avoid unnecessary questions from your friends.
The disadvantage
1. Samsung trash folder make use of the internal storage and not the SD card. When you have lots of files in the trash folder, it may tend to slow down your phone especially if your internal storage space is running out.
This is why you need to get rid of large files from the trash folder or better still get rid of all the files leaving the ones you want to restore.
2. Deleted or unistalled apps doesn’t go to the Samsung trash folder. This is also applicable to the computer though, but it would have been lovely if unistalled apps will move straight to folder before final uninstall.
At this time of writing this post, not all Android phone have this feature, and from the ones I’ve seen so far, Samsung is the best. Even though I know with time lots of phone manufacturers will adopt this Samsung trash folder cause it is very helpful I must admit.
