I have the Samsung tab s8 and I’m telling you that there’s not much difference between the Samsung galaxy s22 ultra and the tab s8 series except for the camera. All that you can do on the Samsung galaxy s22 ultra or the s22 series, you can do the same on the Samsung tab s8 series.
If you are looking for a good Samsung tab that you want to use as a phone, I recommend the Samsung tab s8 as it is very powerful and has an 11 inches display compared to the s8 plus and the s8 ultra which are large in size.
Before going to buy a Samsung tablet, kindly note that there are two types of Samsung tablets you will see in the market, and they include the followings;
- LTE Samsung tablet
- Wifi-only Samsung tablet

2.2. Receive calls on LTE Samsung tablet
On an LTE Samsung tablet, you can receive calls thanks to the fact that you have the option to use a sim card on your LTE Samsung tablet.
To receive calls on your Samsung tablet you simply have to insert a valid sim card into the sim card and make sure to have a cellular network service on your tablet.
2.3. Send and receive SMS text messages
On an LTE Samsung tablet, you can send and receive SMS text messages just like on Samsung Galaxy phones. Before you can do that, you must have a valid and active sim card in your Samsung tab. On the Samsung tab, you have both the google messages and the Samsung messages installed.

As the name suggests, this type of Samsung tablet only uses Wi-Fi for its internet connectivity and it doesn’t have an option for cellular network service thanks to no sim card provision on the Wi-Fi only Samsung tablet.
If you’re planning to buy the Samsung tablet, kindly note that you won’t be able to make calls or receive calls, send or receive SMS text messages on your phone and even the RCS chat feature won’t be available as it requires a sim card.
On Wi-Fi only Samsung tablet, you can’t make and receive cellular calls or send and receive SMS text messages as they require an internet connection unless you have to pair your phone with your tablet.
Once you pair your phone with your Samsung tablet, you can receive text messages and calls by using call & text on other devices.
But to say to replace your phone with Wi-Fi only Samsung tablet, that won’t be possible unless you don’t give a damn about cellular network service and prefer to use the likes of Google voice for your calls and text messages, or even WhatsApp though the recipient must have a WhatsApp account.
So I will advise you to buy the LTE type of Samsung tablet in case you’re looking for a tablet that will replace your phone.
However, I will still recommend you to get a smartphone because tablets might seem big to carry about compared to smartphones. Once you are indoors, you can dump your smartphone and use the tablet.
The best Samsung tablet to replace a smartphone
Now the question is, which is the best Samsung tablet to replace your smartphone?
I will give it to the Samsung tab s8.
Simply because the size is very much okay and you can hold it in one hand compared to the likes of Samsung tab s8 plus or the very large Samsung tab s8 ultra.
However, the Samsung tab s8 screen display is not AMOLED compared to the s8 plus and the s8 ultra which is made of AMOLED hdr display. Irrespective of that, the Samsung tab s8 has a good screen display though it is an LCD.
I recommended the Samsung tab s8 series because they all have the same Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 just like the Samsung s22 series.
One major thing I like is that they all have options for expansion thanks to a dedicated micro SD slot and which is in the Samsung Galaxy s22 series.
Talking about the refresh rate, the Samsung tab s8 series has both 60Hz and 120Hz for you to select and that which is also available in the Samsung s22 series.
As long as I’m inside, I found myself using my Samsung tablet except if I want to make calls or receive incoming calls.
Can you put SIM card in a Samsung tablet?
You can put a sim card into an LTE Samsung tablet as their ID a sim card slot for sim cards.
However, you can’t put a sim card into a Wi-Fi only Samsung tablet as it doesn’t have a sim card slot. Before buying a Samsung tablet, check to see if it is an LTE Samsung tab or the Wi-Fi only Samsung tab.
So if you need to use a sim card on your Samsung tablet, I recommend the LTE Samsung tablet and better still buy the s8 series as it has 5G support.
Does my Samsung tablet have a phone number?
The answer is no. Samsung tablet doesn’t have a phone number rather you need to purchase a sim card from your carrier in order to have a phone number.
Just like on Samsung galaxy phones and other phones, you need to purchase a sim card unless you’re buying from a carrier network that will issue a sim card along with the tablet to you.
Do you need a SIM card to use a Samsung tablet?
You don’t necessarily need a sim card in order to use a Samsung tablet unless you want to make and receive calls and SMS text messages on your tablet.
However, I love the fact that the new Samsung tablet s8 series do support a 5G network and that means you can use a 5G SIM card in the tablet and enjoy the best internet speed. When you use Wi-Fi you may not necessarily enjoy the 5G network and that is why I had to purchase the LTE Samsung tab s8.
Can I get my phone text messages on my tablet?
Yes, you can get text messages on your tablet if it supports cellular network service or probably pairs your phone with your tablet in order to receive text messages on your tablet.
If you have an LTE tablet, you simply have to use a sim card in the tablet and receive direct text messages or even send text messages using google messages or your tab default message app.
Now if your tablet doesn’t have sim card support, then you have to pair your phone to your tablet. It is so easy and all you need to do is to download and install the Google messages on your phone and tablet.
To get started;
- Open Google messages on your phone and tablet.
- Tap on the hamburger menu option and you will see Device Pairing.
- Tap on Device pairing on your phone.
- On your tablet, tap on Pair with phone.
- It will ask you what you want to do, select text with paired phone, and tap on the continue button.
- On your phone, you will see a QR code scanner, tap on the QR code scanner and run it across your tablet screen where.
- Immediately it will pair the two devices.
Afterward, any text message you receive on your phone will also be received on your tablet.
What is the purpose of a SIM card in a tablet?
The purpose of a sim card in a tablet is to make and receive calls, send and receive SMS text messages and get a high Sprinteed internet speed thanks to the 5G network.
If you have an LTE tablet, you can use it just like when you’re using a smartphone except for iPads that can’t make or receive calls except for facetime calls.
In the case of LTE android tablets, you can use it as a phone though the camera is not as good as a smartphone.
