Can you text in airplane mode with wifi on? This is the question of the day and which we’ll be looking at as most people find it quite confusing when it comes to airplane mode and text messages.
Using the airplane mode on a smartphone or on any device is very great especially if you don’t want to be disturbed or in a flight.
Once airplane mode is enabled on a device like the smartphone, it automatically disables Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular data and the cellular network service itself.
However, that doesn’t neccesarily mean that you can’t be able to use Wi-Fi when you enable airplane mode on your iPhone or android phone. This brings us to the question of the day.
And that is;
Can you text in airplane mode with wifi on?
The straight answer is yes. You can text in an airplane mode with wifi on using iMessage, Google rcs chat, or any other instant messaging apps and services like whatsapp, Skype, Google voice Facebook messenger, etc.
Usually, when airplane mode is enabled on a smartphone it will automatically turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular network and data or radio services i will say, but that doesn’t neccesarily mean that you cannot enable these features on your smartphone while on airplane mode.
I’m talking about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
If airplane mode turns off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your smartphone, you can still enable them and use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth even when your phone or device is on airplane mode.
This literally makes it possible to send text messages and also receive text messages when on airplane mode but it is only applicable to instant messaging that uses internet and not carriers or cellular network service.

The answer is yes. You can text on airplane mode with Wi-Fi on iPhone by using the iMessage or any other instant messaging apps and services.
As long as you have an active Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone, you’re good to go sending and receiving iMessages on your iPhone and as well make and receive facetime calls.
How to text on airplane mode on iPhone
To text on airplane mode on iPhone, simply enable Wi-Fi on your iPhone, open the message and send iMessages to the recipient.
However, this will only work for those using iMessage as well and this means you can only send text messages to your contacts using iPhone, iPad, Mac or the Apple watch.
Remember that you can’t send green sms text messages when on airplane mode simply because cellular network service will not be available on airplane mode.
So your means of sending and receiving text messages is through internet connection or probably Wi-Fi as cellular data will be disabled on airplane mode. But if the recipient is using an android phone, you use the likes of Google voice if you have a Google voice account and phone number, Whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, etc.

How to text on airplane mode on android
To text on airplane mode on android, you simply have to use the rcs chat feature on the google messages.
Irrespective of the fact that Samsung has their rcs chat feature, Google rcs messages is the best for me. Any android user can download and install Google messages on their android device and use it to send and receive rcs chat on airplane mode.
Another means of sending text messages on airplane mode on android is by using whatsapp which is very popular among Android users, you have the google voice, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, etc.
Will I receive texts after I turn off airplane mode?
Mostly you will receive texts after you turned off airplane mode on your phone be it sms text messages or instant texts.
If your phone is on airplane mode and someone sent you an sms text message, the text message won’t get delivered to your phone until you turned off airplane mode then you will receive the sent sms text message.
Now you have a space of 48 hours or 72 hours depending on your carrier network. Though mostly you can receive the sent sms text message within three days which is 72 hours, after 72 hours you can’t receive it anymore.
For instant messaging like iMessage; You have just 24 hours to receive the sent iMessage. After 24 hours and your phone has no internet connection on it, you won’t be able to receive the sent iMessage on your iPhone or any other Apple device.
Same goes to the likes of whatsapp, Skype and Facebook messenger. Maybe I should say that all instant text messages do have 24 hrs to get delivered to the recipient else it won’t get sent anymore.
Can you use Wi-Fi on airplane mode on iPhone?
The straight answer is yes. You can use Wi-Fi on airplane mode on iPhone or even on android phone as one can still enable Wi-Fi while on airplane mode.
As long as it is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth you can still turn then on even when your phone is on airplane mode. By default, airplane mode will automatically disable them but afterwards you can enable them on your smartphone.
For cellular network service, that won’t be possible until you disable or turn off airplane mode on your iPhone or android device.
If your means of internet activity is through cellular data, that means you won’t be able to use the internet on your phone until you turn off airplane mode on your phone.
Do messages send on airplane mode?By default sms text messages will never get delivered on airplane mode except for instant messaging which uses internet like the Wi-Fi connection.
For sms text message that uses carrier cellular network, you can never send text messages on airplane mode.
However, for instant messaging like the iMessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, Google voice, etc, you can send text messages simply because they all make use of internet connection and Wi-Fi works on airplane mode.
Do missed calls show up when phone is in airplane mode?
The answer is no. Missed calls won’t show if phone is on airplane mode as cellular calls won’t go through on airplane mode.
However, if the missed calls is from facetime, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, Google voice, it will show up when phone is on airplane mode but only if you have active internet connection.
If your phone is switched off and some calls you on whatsapp, you will see the missed calls immediately you turned on your phone and sane goes to facetime calls, Skype, Facebook messenger and telegram.
For cellular calls, that won’t be possible as long as your phone is on airplane mode because the call will never get through to the recipient phone.
What does airplane mode do with Wi-Fi on?
Airplane mode will automatically turn off Wi-Fi immediately you enable airplane mode on your phone though you can turn on and use Wi-Fi when on airplane mode.
Now I noticed that if I’m using Wi-Fi on my iPhone 12 Pro Max for a long time, airplane mode doesn’t seem to turn it off. I don’t know if it is a bug or software issue, and this seem to be popular among iPhone.
But by default, airplane mode will disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular network. But you can still enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth afterwards and use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth while on airplane mode.
What happens if someone texts you on airplane mode?
By default, if someone texts you on airplane mode the text won’t get delivered to your phone.
If someone texts you on airplane mode using the iMessage, whatsapp, Skype, Facebook messenger, telegram, viber, and you have an active Wi-Fi connection on your phone, the text will definitely get delivered.
Right now when talk about airplane mode affecting some features on the phone, you should be talking about cellular network as both cellular network service and cellular data won’t be available on airplane mode.
