One of the means to know when a message or text message has been successfully sent and received by a recipient is when it shows delivered.
Without showing delivered you can be rest assured that the recipient haven’t received the message or text message though it is quite different on iPhone green text message.
Now the question we have here is does delivered go away when message is read?
On the contrary, delivered will go away if the text message has been read and this is applied to iMessage and android rcs chat message.
However, in terms of sms text message delivered will go away if a recipient opened the sent text message for sms text messages.
This may differ from android phone to other platforms like the ios and instant messaging apps.
In this article, I will be focusing on ios, android, and the instant messaging apps to properly answer the question of the day.
Now let’s continue.
Does delivered go away when message is read?
No, delivered doesn’t go away when a message is read but it is hidden after few minutes of showing delivered on sms text message thought it will go away on iMessages once it is read by the recipient.
Now let me explain the question of the day involving iMessage, Google rcs chat and the default sms text message.
On iPhone
On iPhone, we have two types of sending and receiving text messages and which includes the iMessage and the sms text message.
If you sent a text message using iMessage on your iPhone, the text will show delivered if the recipient received the text message on his phone. Immediately the recipient opened the text message, it will change from delivered to read.
Now instead of you to see delivered below the sent text message or iMessage, what you will see will be read, as shown in the picture below.
This goes on to show you that once a recipient opens a received iMessage on his phone, delivered will go away or change to read.
However, this is possible only if the recipient didn’t disable read receipts on his iPhone.
Kindly note that if the recipient disabled read receipts on his iPhone, delivered won’t go away or change to read as it will remain or show delivered.
For SMS green text message on iPhone, it won’t show delivered or read as it doesn’t have delivery report and read receipt features.

2. On Android Device
Right now on android phone and tablet, we also two types of text messaging and which includes the normal or cellular sms text message and the rcs chat message.
The sms text message uses the cellular network service, while the rcs chat message uses internet like Wi-Fi or cellular data.
The Default SMS text message:
Using the sms text messages to send a text message on android phone and tablet, delivered will never go away if the message is read, and whereas the sender won’t even know if the message was read or not.
Reason being that sms text messages are no instant messaging service that has read receipts feature.
On Android phone messages app, the delivery report will be hidden after few minutes of showing delivered, and you can only see it if you tap on the sent sms text message.
The above picture is for google messages app.
On the default samsung messages app, you won’t see delivered below the sent text message but rather you will only see delivered if you press hold on the sent text message and tap on view details.
The case is different if you’re using the rcs chat feature on both the Samsung messages app and the google messages app.
GOOGLE RCS CHAT MESSAGES:
Using the rcs chat message to send a text on android phone or tablet is quite different compared to the normal sms text message as rcs chat message uses internet like Wi-Fi or cellular data in sending text messages.
Being an instant messaging service, it has both the delivery report and the read receipt feature.
With the rcs chat message feature, after sending a message and it gets delivered, you will see delivered below the message and also see when the message has been opened and read by the recipient.
Immediately the message has been read, it will automatically changes to read just like on like iMessage.
Asking does delivered go away when message is read on android message chat feature, the answer is yes but it will display read read after the message has been read or opened.
Does delivered mean read?
Delivered doesn’t neccesarily mean read especially if the text was sent using iMessage or rcs chat message as it must show read if the recipient read the text message unless when read receipt is turned off.
However, on sms text message that doesn’t have a read receipt then you can assume that the recipient has opened the text when it says delivered.
In some cases where by iMessage or the google rcs chat message never showed read after a couple of sent text messages, it simply means that the recipient disabled or turned off read receipt on his message app. So that shouldn’t bother you at all.
What does it mean when a text says delivered?
When a text says delivered, it simply means the sent text message has been delivered and received in the recipient phone.
Omcr you see delivered after sending a text message, it means the text was successfully sent as the recipient has received the sent text message on his phone.
Has a message been read if it says delivered?
The message may not neccesarily been read if it says delivered especially in terms of sms text message, but in the case of iMessage and rcs chat message it will definitely show read if it has been read by the recipient unless read receipt is turned off.
Delivered simply means the message was successfully sent to the recipient, and the recipient has received the message.
On imessage and the android rcs chat feature, once the recipient opens the message, it will automatically turn from delivered to read unless the recipient disabled the send read receipts on it’s mobile phone.
Why does my text say delivered but not read?
This means the recipient has received the message but has not opened and read the text message unless the recipient’s read receipts is turned off.
Once a recipient opens or read the message, it will change from delivered to read and this is applied to iMessage and rcs chat message on android phone and tablet.
This also goes back to the topic of the post, does delivered go away when message is read. It will show delivered and changes to read immediately the message is opened or read.
Message delivered but not read, this happens if the recipient hasn’t opened the text message or the recipient read receipt is turned off.
How to tell if text message was delivered iPhone to Android?
There’s no way to tell if a text message was delivered or sent from iPhone to android as long as the message was sent through sms.
Using an iPhone to send a message to an android phone will display just like you’re using another android phone or a feature phone to send a text to an android phone. It doesn’t display sent from iPhone or any kind because it only involves the use of the cellular network service.
The truth here is that iPhone green text message doesn’t have a delivery report and which makes it quite difficult to know when a green text message has been delivered to the recipient phone.
So if you’re looking for how to tell if text message was delivered iPhone to Android, I’m sorry to disappoint you there’s no way to tell if a text message was sent from an iPhone to android phone.
Asking does a delivered text mean it was read, the simply answer is no unless the text is sms text message that doesn’t have a read receipt or the recipient read receipt is turned off.
