1. Block text messages on iPhone without a third party app
This requires you to first disable read receipt on your iPhone before opening the message on your iPhone.
Let’s head over to the step by step guide.
Open setting on your iPhone, scroll down to messages and open it. Scroll down a bit and you will see Send Read Receipts, make sure you turned it off on your iPhone.
Once you have turned off send read receipt on your iPhone, go back to the message and open it. Tap on the profile pic or the sender’s name to open the sender info, tap on info and on the next screen is where to block the number on your iPhone.
Right there you will see where it says block this caller just like on the picture below.
Now go ahead and tap on the block this caller button. Immediately you do that, you have stopped the person or sender from sending text messages to your iPhone.
2. When the sender has no number

So you go ahead and dial the number by simply tapping on where it says audio with a call icon.

The app is talking about is called DontText app which helps to block spam and promotional messages by entering a particular word they often used in sending these types of messages to your iPhone.
To get started, download and install DontText app on your iPhone.
Launch the app and do the initial setup or skip to move to the main deal. Now you will get to a page where it says Block/Allow and at the upper right hand corner of your screen you will see an add button.
Tap on the add button and right there you will add a word or a keyword that you often see in those types of promotional messages or spam messages.
When you have done that tap on add button and that’s it.
If you care to look at the picture above, I blocked 6X BONUS and MoMo Agent as I received a tons of messages that has the word or keywords stating 6X BONUS and MoMo Agents.
Since I blocked the two keywords using the DontText app, I haven’t received these promotional text messages on my iPhone.
Other settings for DontText App
To get the best feature or function of the DontText app, you simply have to enable it on your MESSAGE FILTERING.
To do that, open the settings app, scroll down and open messages. Scroll down until you see MESSAGE FILTERING which says Unknown & Spam just like on the picture below.
Open Unknown & Spam and right where it says SMS FILTERING, select DontText.
Now open the messages app and right there you will see options which includes;
- Transactions
- Promotions
- Junk
TRANSACTIONS: This comprises text messages from your bank, other financial institutions, payment agencies like PayPal, payoneer, etc.
PROMOTIONS: This includes all promotional text messages you receive from your network provider and other marketing agencies.
JUNK: This is where all junk notifications or messages will be stored in your iPhone.

You can choose to block a keyword often sent by these people or probably ignore it as DontText app will filter spam messages, promotional messages and transactional messages on your iPhone.

If you don’t fancy using a third party app to filter spam and annoying text messages on your iPhone, you simply have to use your phone default settings.
What does it involve?
This only requires you to open the settings app and scroll all the way down to messages and open it.
Thn you will see where it says Notifications, go ahead and open it. Scroll down to Customise Notifications and tap to open it as well.
By default you will see that notifications is allowed for unknown senders, so you go ahead and turn it off on your iPhone.
Once you have turned off notifications for Unknown Senders on your iPhone, you won’t receive notifications or alert about messages from an unknown sender on your phone.
For you to enable this feature i recommend you to install DontText app or any other similar app and this will allow notifications from your bank or other financial agencies.
To block text messages from unknown numbers, kindly disable notifications on unknown sender’s on your iPhone and you won’t receive notifications for these types of messages.
