Right now I will go through all the means stated online as to how to turn off location without the other person knowing and explain how it doesn’t work at all.
But first I want you to know that there is a difference between turning off location and stop sharing location when it comes to location services and sharing location.
Difference between turning off location and stop sharing location
Turning off location means to prevent location services from working in your phone, while stop sharing location means to prevent someone from seeing your location.
When you talking about how to turn off location without the other person knowing, it simply means turning off location services and location sharing on your phone and once you have done that, no one will be able to see your location.
Also when you disable location services on your phone, you won’t be able to see other people locations on your phone.
Now let me explain the reason there’s no way which you can turn off location or location sharing without the other person not knowing about it.
1. Turning off airplane mode
Now it is stated that one of the ways to turn off location without the other person knowing is through airplane mode but I’m telling you that this will not work.
If you are sharing location with contact A and which both of you can easily track each other and see the current location.
Now you went ahead to turn off location services on your phone and this prevents you from being tracked or seen on map or find my app. If the person tries to view your location what the person will see is No location found on iPhone, while on android it will show that person or contact is offline.

3. Stop Sharing Location on Find My App
Stop sharing location on Find My App is another method described on how to turn off location without the other person knowing, but I’m telling you that it doesn’t necessarily work.
Now we are talking about stop sharing location with a particular contact or person on our iPhone.
I decided to try it out and wasn’t surprised when my other iPhone was notified thar I have stopped sharing location with the iPhone.
How the I receive the message?
Through iMessage.
Once you stop sharing location with a particular contact on your iPhone or all the contacts on your iPhone, they will all be notified.
I repeat this once again, they will all be notified about it and that will be through iMessage. So as long as you had a chat or conversation with the contacts on your iPhone, be rest assured that they will be notified that you have stopped sharing

If you are so much concerned about your privacy and which you wouldn’t want another person to know your exact current location, there is a working solution that I know that wouldn’t show your exact location and that is disabling location precise.
The solution
Having explained that there’s no sure method on how to turn off location without the other person knowing, there is solution for you and this is only available on iPhone.
You have to disable Precise Location on Find My app, Maps, Messages, and weather. If you have Google maps installed on your iPhone, also make sure to turn off or disable Precise Location.
To turn off Precise Location on your iPhone, open the settings app and scroll down to Privacy. Open privacy followed by location services and you will see all the apps on your location or having access to your location.
Using the Find My App as an example.
Definitely Find My App will be among the list and kindly open it.
Tap on Find My and please don’t set Allow Location Access to Never as it will also prevent you from seeing people’s location using Find My app. So please kindly ignore that section and move to the next which is Precise Location.
By default it will be turned on or enabled on your iPhone, so it is left for you to disable on your iPhone.
Once you turned off Precise Location on your iPhone, it will no longer show your exact location. When I say exact location I mean to say it won’t show the particular or exact street name your are staying.
For example, you are saying in 117 Lombard Street in San Francisco, California. If you didn’t turn off precise location what the person tracking you will see will be 117 Lombard Street in San Francisco. However, if you disable or turn off precise location on your iPhone, the person will on San Francisco and that’s all.
Precise location helps to make location services to be accurate and without it location services may not be accurate.
So if you don’t fancy your family members or friends seeing your exact current location, kindly turn off precise location and you are good to go. But in the case of how to turn off location without the other person knowing, I’m sorry that is not possible from my experience.
How to turn off location on imessage without the other person knowing?
There is no way to turn off location on iMessage without the other person not knowing about it unless you never had a conversation with the contact.
Since ios 14, even if you never had a conversation with the contact he or she will receive the message on it’s iMessage. So far no matter how hard I tried to not make my friend phone not get notified on it’s iMessage failed.
It will show that you have stopped sharing location with the contact and if you start sharing location with the contact, it will still notify the person.
What does sharing location mean?
Sharing location means to share your current location with any contact on your phone which includes friends and family members and they will be able to see your location or to track you.
Once you start sharing location with any of your contact, you have already given the person the permission to track you and see your location.
This is available on both android, iPhone and iPad.
What does stopped sharing location mean?
This means the person sharing location with you has disconnected you from being able to view his or her location.
How to stop sharing location with one person?
On your phone, open the messages app or contact app, locate the contact and open the contact details or information. Right there you will see where it states stop sharing my location, tap on it and from henceforth the contact or the person won’t be able to see your location.
Can you still see location when blocked?
Yes you can still see location because location services has nothing to do with being blocked from making calls and sending text messages.
Location services or seeing someone location doesn’t relate to calls and text messages, because of the you can still see someone’s location when blocked as long as the person is still sharing location with you.
If the person stop sharing location with you, that’s the end. You won’t be able to see the person’s current location.
