The cellular iPad is a version of Apple iPad that includes both the Wi-Fi and cellular network connectivity, or most likely cellular data. This means that the iPad cellular has a SIM card slot, but the iPad Wi-Fi does not.

On cellular iPad, you can use a Wi-Fi or probably purchase a data plan for your internet activity especially when there is no available Wi-Fi around. This is one major advantage cellular iPad have over the Wi-Fi only iPad.

On cellular iPad, you have a good advantage to enjoy a fast internet connection especially 5G network service by subscribing to a data plan as you will browse direct without sharing internet speed with any other person around you.

Here’s the fact about cellular iPad;

Cellular iPad cost more than the Wi-Fi only iPad.

For example, all iPad pro tends to have more of cellular iPads as they have both the Wi-Fi and the sim card slot compared to iPad mini and the rest.

Understanding Wi-Fi only iPad

This is another type of Wi-Fi that has only Wi-Fi network for it’s internet connectivity. On Wi-Fi only iPads, you can’t see a sim slot for sim cards or cellular data as it is built for just Wi-Fi only.

As long as internet connectivity or activity is concerned, you can only use Wi-Fi to browse on your iPad. Comparing Wi-Fi only iPad to cellular ipad, the Wi-Fi only iPad is cost effective compared to the cellular iPad.

Here’s the problem.

If you happen to find yourself within an area where there is no active Wi-Fi connection, you can’t browse with your iPad unless you have to use your phone as a hotspot.

But only if you have an active mobile data plan on your iPhone.

Does ipad pro have sim card slot?

iPad pro do have a sim card but only the cellular iPad pro. So if you want to buy an iPad pro in any store, request for a cellular iPad pro instead of the Wi-Fi only iPad pro.

For example, the 2021 Wi-Fi only iPad pro cost $749, while the cellular + Wi-Fi version costs $969 respectively.

So if you want to buy an iPad pro that has a sim card slot, you should for the cellular iPad pro and which I have attached the link above

Does all iPads have a SIM card slot

Not all iPads do have a sim card slot as it is only cellular ipads that has a sim card slot. For Wi-Fi only iPads, they don’t have a SIM card slot as Wi-Fi is the only means of internet connectivity.

For the fact that cellular iPads do have a sim card slot and cellular network service, one would think that cellular ipads can be able to make and receive calls, send and receive sms text messages but the answer is no.

Cellular iPads can’t make or receive calls, send or receive sms text messages irrespective of the fact that they do have a provision for sim card and cellular network service. Cellular iPads are only built for cellular data that is for internet activity on iPad.

However, you can link your iPhone to your iPad in order to make calls but I don’t fancy that since I can easily make calls right from my iPhone.

How do I make calls from iPad to SIM?

To make calls from iPad to SIM, you must have a sim card in your iPad and make sure you have an active network service on your iPad.

Now follow these steps to make calls from iPad to SIM;

  • First this requires you to link your iPhone to your iPad
  • Make sure that your iPad apple ID is same with your iPhone Apple ID.
  • Open the settings app on both devices and scroll down to facetime and open it.
  • On the next screen you have to enable iPhone cellular calls on both your iPhone and on your iPad as well.

Now you have enabled iPhone cellular calls on both devices, on your iPad kindly open the contact app and scroll down to any contact you want to call and tap on the call button to call the person.

On your iPhone you will receive a notification about the outgoing call on your iPad.

For incoming calls, that isn’t an exception as you receive incoming calls right on your iPad though the incoming call will display on both the iPad and on the iPhone as well.

Honestly for me, I don’t really fancy this at all especially I can seamlessly make phone calls from my iPhone and same time receive incoming calls. So what the essence of linking up both devices just to make and receive calls on my iPad unless when I don’t have my iPad with me.

Can iPad Pro cellular make phone calls?

iPad pro cannot make a direct call except when it is linked up with an iPhone then it make call but there must be an active cellular network for the call to go through.

That is to say you must have a cellular iPad in other to make and receive calls on your iPad.
