When it comes to some essential features in a smartphone, there’s no doubt that do not disturb made the list.
With DND, you can block calls and silence notifications for a given period of time especially if you’re in a meeting or private session, and don’t want to be disturbed with calls and notifications.
So in this article we’ll be looking at the question of if i put someone on do not disturb will they know.
So it can be quite annoying calling someone’s phone and realizing that maybe the person’s phone is on do not disturb mode.
Lets jump in with the answer.
If i put someone on do not disturb will they know?
They won’t know because they won’t be notified that you put them on do not disturb mode.
If you put your phone on do not disturb mode, and you didn’t exempt any contact from the DND on your phone, there’s no way they will know that your phone is on do not disturb mode.
This is because if the call your number, they won’t be notified that your phone is on do not disturb mode.
The person may speculate that your phone may be on DND but wont come into conclusion.
For more understanding, let me explain how DND works, and how people try to find out if the person they are calling is on do not disturb mode.

What is do not disturb, and how it works
Talking about Do Not Disturb, kindly note that it is a feature commonly found on electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers.
When DND is activated on a given device, it prevents notifications, calls, and alerts from interrupting the user.
For example, if do not disturb is turned on an android phone or iphone, it will automatically block calls and silence text notifications along with other apps notifications.
The feature is useful when you want to focus on something without being disturbed or distracted by incoming messages or notifications.
For example, if you’re in a meeting, class or in a private session.
You can usually customize which notifications are allowed to come through, like calls from specific contacts or urgent messages.
It’s a handy tool for maintaining concentration and privacy.
One thing I noticed about do not disturb is the fact that it look the same on both android and ios device.
So talking about if i put someone on do not disturb will they know, the answer is no they won’t know.
And this is applied to both android and ios.
So you shouldn’t bother at all.
However, there’s a way that some users or callers use to find out if their recipient is on do not disturb mode.
The method they use
As do not disturb mode block calls and redirect the caller straight to voicemail if the recipient has an active voicemail, the caller will try send a text message.
The caller will send a text message or iMessage to the recipient to see if the message will get delivered.
As DND don’t block text message but rather silence the notifications from the text message, the message will definitely get delivered as long as the recipient phone is active.
So in a situation whereby a text message gets delivered but calls don’t go through or gets redirected to voicemail, it is likely to be caused by do not disturb mode.
But the truth is that the person can only speculate but wont come into a final conclusion that the recipient phone is on do not disturb mode.
And this also goes on to tell you that someone will not know that you put them on do not disturb mode.
What happens when you put someone on do not disturb on imessage?
The person can be able to send iMessages to your phone, as DND don’t block iMessages or text messages.
Also, remember that DND don’t restrict cellular data or Wi-Fi connection, so as long as your phone has an active internet connection, anyone can send iMessages to your phone on DND, and the message will get delivered to your phone.
Dont expect dnd to block messages because it doesn’t.
DND don’t block iMessages or text messages or any other phone features except for calls.
So when you put someone on dnd, expect to receive messages from the person but the message alert will be silenced.
Call Behavior on DND
Call behavior on dnd is that the feature block calls and move them straight to voicemail if applicable.
This is available on android and ios.
However, it the recipient has no active voicemail, the call will end right away showing USER BUSY.
So please bear this in mind that it a call shows User Busy but text messages get delivered, the recipient phone might be on do not disturb mode.
But if the recipient has an active voicemail, the call will be redirected to voicemail.
On iPhone:
If you put someone on DND and the person called your line for more than once, if the person called back within three minutes of the first call, the second call will go through.
The second call won’t be blocked on iphone.
If you don’t fancy this happening on your iPhone, then you have to turn off the feature.
To do so, go to Settings on your iPhone and tap on Focus to open.
As you open the Focus option as shown in the above attachment, you will see Do Not Disturb on the the next page.
Tap on Do Not Disturb to open.
Right now you should be on DND settings page.
Look where it says People below Notifications (Notifications that are silenced will be sent to notification center)
Tap on the option that says People
And right there you have the option to turn off Repeated Calls on DND.
So make sure that this feature that says Allow Repeated Calls is not turned on or enablee on your iPhone.
Once you have turned off the feature, no one will be able to call you when your phone is on do not disturb mode.
On Android:
For android, this feature is not available for Samsung users, I don’t know of other Android brands.
Once you have the repeated call feature enabled on your samsung phone, if someone calls your number when on do not disturb mode, subsequent calls will go through as long as the person called back within 15 minutes.
By default this feature is turned off on all samsung phones and tablets.
But you should make sure it is not enabled on your samsung device.
To do so, open the Settings app on your phone and scroll down to Notifications, tap to open.
Next you will see Do not Disturb on your screen as shown below.
Tap on do not disturb to open the option.
Right there you will see Calls and Messages as shown below, tap to open the option.
Next you will see the option that says Repeat Callers.
As long as the Repeat Callers option is turned off on your samsung phone and tablet, no contact can call your number when your phone is on do not disturb mode unless you exempted that very contact.
You can put anyone or any contact on do not disturb mode on your iPhone or Android phone, the contact won’t find out. And this is where I come to the conclusion of today’s question of the day, if i put someone on do not disturb will they know.
