You tried to check someone’s location on iMessage or message app, and what you saw is location map not showing in imessage.
What could be the problem or the cause of location map not showing or available in iMessage. All that I will explain to you in this article especially if you’re sharing location or the contact was sharing location with you.

Location map not showing in imessage
Location map not showing in iMessage is due the other person not Sharon location with you.
However, there are certain circumstances where someone will be sharing location with you, but you can’t see the location map on the iMessage for that very contact.
So I will explain how you can fix that problem as well.
But let me explain how location map works on iMessage.
How it works
On iMessage, If someone shares location with you on his or her iPhone, you will definitely see the location map on the person’s detail information on iMessage.
Below is a typical example.
The above image shows an example of how it looks if someone is sharing location with you on iMessage.
Then if the person is not sharing location or has stopped sharing location with you on iMesage, it will look like the below image.
Looking at the above image there’s no location map, and which simply means you cannot view the person location on iMessage.
So talking about location map not showing in imessage, the person need to share location with you before you can be able to see location map showing in imessage for that very contact.
Let me show you how you can share location on iMessage or mess app.
To share location on iMessage, you need to do the followings;
- Open the message and locate the conversation or chat you had with the contact.
- Tap on the contact name on top of your screen.
- It will open the contact’s details, and right there you will see where it says Share My Location, go ahead and tap on the option.
- You will be presented with three options which includes For 1 hour, Until End of Day, and Indefinitely.
- Select your preffered option and that’s it.

Get started by opening the message app and locate the conversation or chat you had with the contact.
Tap on the contact name as shown below.
So you go ahead and tap on the person’s contact name.
Next you will see where it says Share My Location, please tap on that very option as shown below.
Next you will be presented with three options, which are;
- For 1 hour
- Until End of Day
- Indefinitely
So if you want to share location with the contact for just 1 Hour , you go ahead and select the option.
To share location with the person or contact Until End of Day means to share location until it is 12 am midnight.
For example, you decided to share location with someone and the time was 8pm in the night, once it gets to 12 am midnight the location sharing will stop right away.
So if you prefer this option, you go ahead and select the option.
To Share Location Indefinitely, this means you will share location with the contact until you decide to stop sharing location with the person or contact.
Here, Apple will not automatically stop sharing location with the person, but rather you will be the one to stop sharing location with the person or contact.
So if you want to share location indefinitely with the contact, go ahead and tap on the option.
You will receive a notification message on your iMessage chat with the contact that you started sharing location with the contact.
From ios 17 update and above, you will be presented with a location map to send it as a message to the contact.

Once you have done that, that’s it.
You have started sharing location with the contact. Then you should request for the contact to share location with you, and if the person fails to comply, please stop sharing location with the person.
I can’t seem to share location with someone who is not sharing location with me.
Once both parties are sharing location with each other, location map will be available or shown on iMessage.
Location map not showing in imessage after sharing location
Sometimes this type of issue occur.
In order to fix location map not showing in imessage after sharing location, you have to stop sharing location with the contact, and start to share location all over again.
I will advise you to share location from iMessage instead of using Find My or the contact app.
When sharing location on iMessage as I have shown above(scroll up), you will see a location map along with a text box will appear.
Tap on the arrow send button to share and send your location to the contact.
The contact should do the same as well.
I noticed that if the location map didn’t appear as shown in the above image, you will have the problem of location map not showing in imessage even when sharing location.
So please make sure that the location map do appear, and don’t forget to send it to the other person. And the other person should do the same as well.

Not being able to see someone’s location even though they are sharing it?
They may have turned off location services or share my location on their phone.
As long as location services or share my location is turned off, you won’t be able to see someone’s location even when they are sharing location with you.
Now listen, if you try to check someone’s location and it shows No Location Found, it simply means the person turned off location services or share my location is turned off.
If you happen to see can see your location, then it means the person no longer share location with you.
But please note that no active internet connection will also make location sharing not to work because location services requires internet connection in order to work.
Through location services, you can see someone’s current location.
Is it possible to turn off location on iMessage?
Yes you can turn off location on iMessage by simply disabling location services or share my location.
Once you have done that, no one will be able to see your current location.
Let me show you how to go about it.
Get started by opening the Settings App on your iPhone or iPad.
Scroll down to Security & Privacy and tap to open the option
You will see Location Services, please tap on the option. Next is where you have to turn off Location Services, go ahead and turn it off as shown in the image below.
Once you have turned off location services on your iPhone or apple device, your current location will not be updated on location map on iMessage and as well on Find My app.
You can also turn off Share My Location, look below location services and you will the option as shown in the above image.
Tap on the option and turn it off as well.
Once you have turned off all these options, you have turned off your location on iMessage.
iMessage delivered but location not available
This is caused when the recipient turned off location services or share my location.
In this type of situation, the recipient internet connection is very much active as iMessage was delivered to you. But the truth is that the recipient turned off share my location or location services in order to prevent his or her current location from being seen.
